Hi guys, I just got the job offer in Singapore, will start work on first of June. But i am required to stay in Singapore, my sister works in Clark Quey and I will be working in Tai Seng, any suggestion which place is suitable for staying? What i mean is it has better safety, less crime ( I know Singapore is low crimes country, but there is still some place which is high rate of crime laugh.gif ), and its near MRT. And lastly, cheap rental. THanks~~~~~ smile.gif

where?
if your sis already work here, she should understand better where is suitable
*
Actually she stays in Clementi. You know from Clementi to Clark Quey is kinda far right? laugh.gif Because her company has moved from Clementi to Clark Quey, that's why she might need to move out to nearer places. I don't mind stay nearby Clark Quey, but i understand that Clark Quey rental is very expensive right? smile.gif

My sister has been working in Singapore for 2 years. I will be joining her on June. So i might be staying with her in a same room.

It's kind usual to see those weirdo, you can even find these people in KL as well. Like i saw an old guy singing 80s music loudly in bus. @__@

all my friends including myself applied SG job from malaysia...

unless you are so desperate to work in SG as soon as possible, else just take your time and apply from Malaysia...

+1.Actually I do feel that for those who are staying quite far from Singapore, i'm not recommending you guys stay in Singapore and look for a job. Nowadays those companies in Singapore are rarely accept walk in interview. Even you try to submit resume or watsoever to them, they are either reject you and ask you to apply through online, or they just take your paper and you will be wondering whether it will send to HR or not.

Even I live in JB, i also need to spend few months, to get a job. Maybe is my luck is not enough, but assuming your situation is like me, staying in Singapore for few months is going to cost you...... rclxub.gif . If a company would like to hire you, no matter where you are, they will surely ask you to come for interview. smile.gif

Going to live in Farrer Park and start work on June 1st, I'm lucky that this company HR is willingly to wait 2 and half months due to my current contract. :

which again one should ask, "do I have the special qualifications or set of skills that the employer will go all out to get me ?"
*
Actually, even you are fresh grad, it is still possible for you of getting hired. Its just whether the company wanna hire you or not compare with others who have better qualification. But this is somehow depend on your luck. Sometimes even you have the great qualification and skills, the company would still try to tease you or even make fun on you. I have a real scenario among my friends.

I would say go for it, special qualification or set of skills? Its quite vary. smile.gif

Does anyone get any suggestion for me to park my car in the nearest mrt in order to go to Marina Bay? I'm not familiar with Singapore road, so I'm thinking of parking my car in the nearest mrt ( not too far from marina bay ).

Yes, for lower salary comapre to local candidate.  You get calls if you have the special skills or much lower cost or BOTH.
*
I'm wondering your special skills for fresh grad is referred as? Lower cost? This doesn't apply only to fresh grad, its even applied to everyone, even how good are you with bunch of exp and cert, you will still expect lower salary compare to local candidate, even you got PR. smile.gif (better than Non-PR, but still can't beat local singaporean)

If i'm an employer of coz i will shortlist those who have better qualifications than those who don't. For example, a First-class honours degrees or even someone with double Degrees would have a clear advantage over someone who have an ordinary Degrees. There is no luck to it. So, do you have what it takes for the company to 'hunt' for you instead ?

Added on April 9, 2012, 1:38 pm

No, why should you accept a lower salary than the rest ?
*
Nowadays there are few Singapore company are having trends even how high is your qualification, whether double degree, or even u got PHD, you might lose to a local citizen with a Degree cert. Furthermore the person has worked in Singapore for 3 years, + with a PR. This is not something that with qualification + lower salary demand can settle. Seriously, this is being as luck on getting the job. The treatment lines between us being as foreigner and local citizen are too significant. This is same goes to Australia as well.

back to my question again, are you so sure you can get higher salary than the local citizen? I'm sure most of us are underpaid, we have the right to decline any possible pay that you may think is lower salary. But some companies won't just because of your nerf and negotiate with it. There is a trend for the fixed salary nowadays, whereby local citizen, should be getting around this amount, and PR should be getting around this amount lower. Big companies such as Big 4 are applying this rule. And if HR doesn't like you in the first place, even interviewer said you confirm get the job will not help you at all. No matter how good is your qualification. Even the reason is so absurd that everyone will think HR is make fun on you in the first place.

ham_revilo,

Let me share my experience with you. Been posting resume to Singapore jobs in KL since end of 2011 and not getting any call at all.

I came here in beginning of March(just 2-3 weeks ago) and kept posting resume. The only difference is the phone number. I got call from 3 different companies for interview on 2nd week of my arrival. Now I have found job.
If you ask me, I would say coming to Singapore does somehow help you to increase the chance of getting a job. However, YMMV.
*
Actually he can ask his friend to get Singapore prepaid card first and keep the phone alive when he was in KL. Its still the same though. laugh.gif Unless HR realize the fees is roaming call. :S

I honestly do not see this in MNCs or local listed companies, especially with regards to graduate positions.

I see it not as an issue with discrimation, but an issue with some foreigners being more desperate and willing to accept a lower pay compared with locals.

In my company, everybody gets the same salary scale. How do I know? Because I can see every emplyee's job level and salary.
*
But the real fact is, its existed. Your company is really good as salary scales are same, but some companies out there are not. Even bunch of my friends who are Singaporean citizen can't believe this as well after what his colleague who is a PR has faced throughout the problem. I hate to say this though but this is really true. sad.gif I do believe there is discrimination within some companies. Maybe the reason you all don't feel it is because the company kept this problem really well and its a well reputation companies as well. Foreigners being more desperate, yes i truly agree, but the case i've seen, its not due to lower pay, in fact is really somehow like discrimination.

You can only be discriminated if you agree with it. If you don't want to be paid less than your local peers, then don't take the offer. If you accept the offer, you agree to be discriminated.
*
Like i said, the case i've seen now is not due to paid less... Its purely human attack, even though the person is from HR and most probably my friend doesn't even bother with her, but during the phone conversation... its really bad.... really bad....

A smart one will do the come from behind thing. Not 'don't take up'. Money don't want meh?? wink.gif lol.

You take the money and sabo them back man... why let them muck you around? wink.gif

Since you don't have a job and nothing to do anyway; just get the job and f them. wink.gif Coz, they f you first remember? wink.gif rclxub.gif
*
That's true, actually my friend he doesn't have to worry so much as he has PR anyway. Getting the job will be much much easier compare with last time, with 3 years working exp in Singapore. Of course, in theory we should f them back, but you know, not everyone knows how to be a devil. tongue.gif So i can say, my friend is still not mature enough to counterattack those kind of issues. Most important thing is that, we can't let them take things for granted. laugh.gif
