QUOTE(r1v3r @ May 7 2012, 02:19 PM)
Not all people think like you.

Some military training for young man is good and I believe in fairness. If 2nd Gen PR want to continue their stay/work in SG, they should contribute by performing his duty else he can go other country.

Some family also believe in "live together as one". When something bad happen in MY, the worst things is your son will not join the rest of the family in SG because he chicken out his NS.

added: You can get your CPF back after some time but not your PR.

Are you sure that 2.5 years of military training plus approximately 1 month of military commitment each year is some military training? If it's 2 months or 3 months it would not have been such a difficult decision. The amount of years spent doing NS is enough to mess up your future commitments. Some people cannot do medicine even though they got accepted because of this commitment.

You're not getting his point. Assuming you don't give up your PR, you can't happily withdraw everything from CPF at 55th birthday. I dunno the details but you can only withdraw some ridiculously small sum, then the rest government will only give you back by monthly payment over next 20 years or something like that.

If you give up your PR, and if you are West Malaysian, you still can't (immediately) get your CPF back, still have to wait til 50-55: http://mycpf.cpf.gov.sg/CPF/my-cpf/Overseas/LivO9.htm

K. My dad is no longer a PR there because he's not working there anymore

So all those who served NS are not having a good career?

and no SG doctor had ever serve NS? No medic, MO (Medical Officer) in NS?

It depend on how to see thing and mix around, you can waste you time serving NS or you can build-up another network for your own good.

for 2~3 months, you may try scouting activity.

My bunch of citizen colleagues whose salaries range from 10~20K get called for reservist duty every year, without fail.

None of them officers. Because officers serve more years of reservist duty compared to enlisted men. All if them made it a point to act blur during the early years so that they were not identified for officer training.

The complaint my fellow Singapore has regarding NS:

- They have 2 years less income. If 3k a month, that's 72k in their life time.

- They don't like the idea of serving the country protecting the PRC and foreigners while they eat up their job.

Anyway, they're having 2 great years of fun and memories. Less zombie years in office.

This train thingy is like a pariah to Singapore now. Sad case.

the whole story is i arrived at jurong east platform d from bukit batok at 8.35am.. saw a big crowd of ppl waiting for trains to pasir ris.. there was a train already there waiting with doors opened.. inside already alot of ppl.. another train waiting behind midway between chinese gardens and jurong east which will arrive in 1 min..

but that train to pasir ris did not move at all.. after waiting for 5 mins.. asked everyone inside the train to alight, saying that train is faulty.. everyone left the train but the train cannot move at all..

delaying the entire line.. another 5 mins passed and yet the faulty train still at the platform.. i quickly went down and took alternative..

after that got trains towards joo koon also stucked in jurong east.. because trains at joo koon cannot be cleared due to the faulty train to pasir ris..

It's been 4.5 years now for me in SG. Iife is starting to get bored here especially everyday MRT, public bus, sweet taste chaw kuei tiaw.

Thought of not repeating the same routine daily and now intend to return to KL to start my business perhaps or continue my career there.

Anyone have the same intention as mine?

buy a bike.

from you post, you spend long hours in BMW and did not have a chance to explore the less travel part of SG.

You can ride to explore food and places in different corner of SG. Else just ride to JB during off peak hour (no jam you can cross over in less than 15min) for food then back to SG.

If that does not fix it, well you need a holiday.

It has been 10yrs now for me at work in SG.

i felt d same feeling living in SG aft 4yrs too vmad.gif . me, instead go back kl shakehead.gif , i opt to re-locate to jb and cummute daily.
aft a year renting a room, then moved in own home as single, then bring in a partner to share, then & then till got no time to get bored...

I opine, one will feel less bored if you change your living enviroment from time to time, specially after you owned a home, your mind & time will get very occupied besides work sweat.gif .

buying a bike is not a viable option for me as I have no licence.

Still not sure whether returning to KL is a good idea. Lifestyle there is more happening and I will have my own car traveling to places I like to.
Sense of freedom.

I see nowadays salary also not bad in KL too (on the salary thread here), 5 years exp can achieve RM8K to RM10K

Anyhow, I am still considering
