Hi guys, i'm new to the world of ICE. Would like some enlightenment. I'm planning to install an amp and a woofer into my car. The thing is, i heard from a friend of mine that, 2 channel amps are much better for the bass, while 4 channel amps are better for the music quality. Is there a difference between 2 channel and 4 channel? I find my sound quality is good enough to satisfy me, i just want a more powerful bass from a woofer. Another friend of mine helped me to get a 4ch macrom amp (not sure what model) for rm300+/-. Was thinking whether it is worth the money or not, or should i get a 2ch amp instead. I apologize if i have any misunderstandings about my knowledge about ICE. Will the sifus give me some enlightenment? Thanks! *Update 7/2/2012* So i got myself an AudioQuart HC-80.4 4ch amp. My stock speakers cannot take the power, so they end up sounding not really nice. I can't blast my music loud, but only enough to enjoy the sound inside the car. Mostly some time next week, i'll search for a woofer that my amp can power up. Any recommendations? This post has been edited by Aishinka: Feb 7 2012, 12:55 AM

the number of channel an amp have does not determine the amp's power. u need to see wat the RMS Watt it can produce. for example, a 4ch amp that can produce 100watt RMS each channel is the same wif a 2ch amp with same power ratting.
it is just tat a 2ch amp normally cheaper and can b bridge to have more power.but bear in mind tat in bridge mode, some amp cannot go below 4ohm. doing so may cause the amp to burn.
wat woofer r u using? watt?ohm? if u can find a 4ch amp that enuf to power ur sub then y not...u can use the other 2ch for ur mids n tweets.
usually u find something like this: 4ch x 80watt RMS @ 4ohm 4ch x 100watt RMS @ 2ohm 2ch x 200watt RMS @ 4ohm bridge 2ch x 400watt RMS @ 2ohm bridge
btw, I am talking about RMS (stable power)...not peak/max/PMPO power ratting which usually used by manufacture to promote their stuff.

Thanks for the reply. I'll have a look at the amp's specs tomorrow, will update. So that means a 4ch amp and a 2ch amp will have no difference in sound produced if both have the same power rating?

amps doesnt matter much if its 2ch or 4 ch .. just becareful on the wattage .. make sure enuf watt to drive ur subs. Also if u getting few subs.. better check if ur car power system can support the current drive or not .. if not then put a 1F cap lo. Cabling need to be those thicker type of cable la .. if not later cable melt. to drive ur tweet or mids .. better get a freq filter aka xover to filter out the signal after amp some amp does come with the xover but i dont really like to use those cuz the signal coming out not so clean ... just my opinion la ... guess u got a deal for a ol skool macrom amp. those amp r usually 50rms x 4 (average power). If u mate it with a high sensitivity 4ohm svc subbbie, it can sound good too.
Of coz, if budget permits, then by all means go for a class ab monoblock to drive ur sub.
Buidling a ported enclosure tune at 40hz, will need sufficient dampening in cabin. If not all u hear is vibration noise all over.
If dont plan to dampen the cabin, suggest u dun go port tuning too low. 50hz ++ will do but it will sound a bit hard and narrower bass upfront
conclusion - to gain good slam from sub, a few variables need to consider. Not juz an amp. There r also other variables whic can improve sub sounding. Getting the sub sound right its a journey.
