I'm sure he can appeal to the university to extend his candidature. His supervisor can support that appeal knowing his circumstance.

May i know what if the supervisor is the problem? my friend is actually having the exact same problem but the issue is he wants to change uni as current uni doesn't have any other lecturers with the same background and his supervisor is the root of his research problem. he is currently on deferment due to chronic health and mental health problem. the supervisor knows that he is on deferment to focus on treatment but the supervisor insist on making his life miserable by dumping 3-4 conference papers for him to submit and attend all those conferences. he had his last straw and decided to leave because he could not handle it anymore as stress is no good for his current health state. now the supervisor threatened him that he will no longer communicate with anything especially with regards to my friend's research and he knows that failure to finish the research will cause my friend to pay a penalty upto 70k. we are finding answers even phone calls made to mybrain were never answered. please help us to find answers tq~~

These are the things your friend can do.

Get help from the Ombudsman dept in his current university.

Get help from the legal dept in his current university.

Get help from the dean of the school.

Get support from the above depts. Get support letter if you can.

At the same time, apply to another university and wait for the offer letter.

Once he received the offer letter from another university, write (he has a write a formal letter) to MyBrain to inform them that he is changing to another university (with strong justification) to continue his PhD. Make sure that the topic is closely related to his original topic. If you intend to change topic, you can keep that knowledge to yourself first (if you get what I mean  smile.gif ).

Attach all the necessary documents together as well. Eg support letter from Ombudsman, legal dept of the university, dean, etc.

I have asked MyBrain before what if a student changes to another university to continue his research (for PhD). Yes, they allow as long as you inform them.

At the same time, keep calling MyBrain to seek advice as well. I have to sit down next to the phone for the entire day just to get through a few years back.

Will do. Tried calling mybrain a few times but no surprise that no one picked up the phone. But thank you so much for the info!
