Hi folks,

I spotted 2 sofas for my home, 1 is leather while the other was synthetic leather which cost cheaper than the genuine leather.

Well, before i dig my money for it, I would like to know what are the guide lines to protect these leather furnitures so the lifespan would be prolonged, and the flaking surface issue would not pop up so soon. Another thing, what are the recommended products to be used for this care?

Dark color leather, just use warm water to clean. If white leather need to get the leather soap.

Thanks, after cleaning using above method, are u using any polishing/coating products to keep the leather from being dried up and prevent flaking/cracks?

The Sofa seller say no need, just water will do.

diy milk+oil wipe occasionally or yes, warm water,..or buy leather protection product...i practised the first one....mine cracked only a bit after 14 years then i send them to a friend for rewrap

don't use normal soap. it will be too harsh for your sofa. will make your sofa crinkled. learned it the hard way.

get Armorall Leather. cost about 20 bucks per bottle. my house oso got one genuine sofa and one synthetic sofa. funny thing is the synthetic sofa doesn't get dirty easily and armorall doesn't have any effect on it. the genuine sofa dirty easily but after clean using armorall, look like new. just wipe a bit and the stain will be removed easily. you can easily get it in any supermarket. can use for car leather seat oso.

Here is some knowledge of aniline leather sofa...

An aniline leather sofa is not advisable for homes with young children and pets, or rooms were food and drink is consumed.

No pigment coating is used on aniline leather so it is very susceptible to staining. If liquid, such as coffee, is spilt on your aniline leather sofa the liquid will be immediately absorbed and will very quickly darken the affected area until it dries. This often results in a stain that will only fade with time.

The dyes used to colour aniline leather are prone to being broken down by sunlight. Prolonged exposure can cause discoloration very rapidly. In order to prevent this, be sure to keep your aniline sofa out of direct sunlight.

A Corrected grain leather sofa is a great choice if you want a hard wearing, durable and easy to clean sofa. It makes an ideal choice for a busy family home with young children and pets.

A great feature of this leather is that if liquid, such as coffee, is spilt onto your sofa the pigmented coating will resist absorption long enough for you to be able to wipe it down with a damp cloth.

The pigment coating has a great resistance to light and will not fade as rapidly as dyes that are often used to colour unfinished leathers, such as aniline leather.

After using leather sofa for quite a number of years, always find it a problem when you have some discolouring problem or minor tear which can be very embarrassing.

Have switch to the movable cushion types from Fella Design and find it a good option. Though each set of design covers can be costly but you do have a choice of designs every now and then. Some variety!
