if you've s-off and rooted, why do you need official ICS update?
*
coz some people (like me) just want to root for the sake of having more control of the OS, but at the same time trying to keep with stock ROM.

binary : are you also having problem updating?

Yes, I've problem updating the official OTA. After downloaded the file, the phone rebooted and it just stuck with the screen with a android and exclamation mark.
*
oh, we're stuck on the same page then. icon_question.gif needed

p/s: I think mebi need to unroot first, but a bit busy today, probably will do it after work

p/s 2: Ok I think I know what's wrong, I could probably do it later tonight.

Refer the quote below from xda.

QUOTE
Just an FYI to everyone, it's not root that will stop the OTA from updating on its own, it's a custom recovery. The OTA requires your phone to have the stock recovery. If you installed ClockworkMod Recovery, then you have to get back to stock using the RUU. That can be found here:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1201773

If you only acheived S-OFF with the Revolutionary tool and never installed a custom recovery, then you can go ahead and apply the OTA update and not worry about losing S-OFF. You can then load a custom recovery and gain root access by following the instructions here:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16808547

I hope this helps out anyone that has questions.

And I know this process works, because I had to do it to apply the update.

*
niko, is there another way of removing the cwm/root other than installing ruu?

If so, get the RUU here : http://bbs.zhangku.com/thread-54417-1-1.html

the d/l link should be here in case you can't get the link from that forum : http://dl.dbank.com/c0bvibpcd4

No data lost but somehow I lost my root and I can't install back custom recovery. Will try to find the solution...
*
I guess it could be due to your su binary doesn't support ICS (if you still have your old su-bla3-signed.zip, make sure it got the bolded su-3xxx-efghi-signed.zip. Else it means that your binary doesnt support ICS. Get it here : http://androidsu.com/superuser/)

For recovery, you can use the cwm-recovery-touch. but the procedure would be different. refer here : http://www.htcsensationforum.com/htc-sensa...recovery-touch/

here's a link which contains all cwm recovery (you just need to search for pyramid.img files, as you would do in your earlier Gingerbread) http://download.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/.

if you want to use the volume-based method, you can always get the latest recovery as well from the site. for that you can refer back to the s-off guide earlier. should work smile.gif

p/s: i've already installed the ICS-compliant SU binary previously, in anticipation of ICS hahaha, so hopefully after I update OTA my root still works smile.gif

After applying the FOTA upgrade, my HTC is S-OFF but not rooted, it is half an hour has not even properly restarted. IS that normal.

I removed the batt and it went back to 2.3.4

Please advice
*
What logo screen do you see? If Android mascot with caution logo, means that you're using custom recovery, you need to change to stock recovery.Refer to my and binary's previous post on how we got the same issue and solved it.

If you're stuck with android phone+caution logo, you can press volume up key and look at the error message. I got this issue while applying the FOTA upgrade since I removed SoundHound_freemium.apk previously.

As for root, I'm not sure if binary has already re-installed his root, but I'm applying right now. Seems that some of my apps have partial root access, and some are denied root access.

Please describe your situation. I've done so much research and solved some issues regarding phone contacts. Maybe I can help you. smile.gif
*
contacts for some reason does not appear (or actually appear not as a known number), i can't even search the number. However after checking at google.com/contacts I see the contacts there. Which means that there's a sync-up issue between Google and my phone, for whatever reason it might be, but it never occured previously in GB, only in ICS I start to see this issue. There's another way for me to solve it which is to move everything to phone rather than Google, but that is kinda hectic especially if you have thousands of contacts hehe

Have you tried manual syncing from the settings? So, basically your phone does not have contacts, right? You're just relying on your google's account contacts? Same here. I am using Google's contacts. And I take it that you're using stock ROM? If you're using stock, I have not much to say here because it's a new ICS update. Plus, the new update has many issues. (based on what I've read on what people said).

Yep, stock ROM, 4.0.3. Syncing manually doesn't seem to solve the issue, for some reason I had to manually enter the number, make a call, then will the phone start to search for the contact linked with the phone number *_*
