Auto sync is turned off since morning.removed from charger at around 12pm.now at 2.30...3 bars gone n hp is warm.it was on idle.

it wont be like this except u overclock it exceed the normal range.. mayb hardware fault?

The stock HTC twitter app is the one that's causing huge battery drain when I had this problem.

my main concern is it will get only the "lite version" of ICS... will it lack some functions of ICS and will it run ICS compatible apps in the future.
my point is: is it FUTUREPROOF

if the app is not on the task manager does not means it is not running in the background. Go to setting>application>running application.. the one the hogs the most ram should be the culprit.. i usually close my app using the "back" button..the task manager sometimes doesnt seems to do the trick.i if you are still feeling paranoid..or still notices the battery hog..do a restart, and dont turn on any apps and let it run to see if the battery hog is still going on or not
