DRB-HICOM in Volkswagen charm offensive

KUALA LUMPUR: DRB-HICOM Bhd, the country’s biggest automotive company by sales, is understood to have hosted two Volkswagen AG group directors last Thursday.

Business Times understands that the two met key stakeholders of DRB-HICOM, including its top management.

“They also reviewed all Proton Holdings Bhd’s models,” said a source.

It is understood that the Volkswagen directors were here to evaluate the possibility of having a collaborative technical agreement on technology transfer with Proton.

“This is the first step and I think that there will be many more such meetings before a deal could be struck,”said the source.

DRB-HICOM recently bought a 42.7 per cent stake in Proton for RM5.50 a share, valuing the national carmaker at RM3 billion.

DRB-HICOM currently assembles VW cars at its manufacturing hub in Pekan, Pahang.

Volkswagen, Europe’s largest carmaker, eventually plans to use Pekan as its main hub to penetrate the Southeast Asian market.

Meanwhile, CIMB said in a report that with the acquisition of Proton, it now valued DRBHICOM shares at RM4.60 each.

“With Proton operating at a 50 per cent utilisation rate, DRB-HICOM has the option to allow its foreign partners to use its excess capacity,” analyst Lucius Chong said in the report.

Chong noted that he would not be surprised if DRB- HICOM were to hive off Lotus.

Additionally, the purchase of Proton will also increase DRB-HICOM’s revenue and net profit substantially.

The CIMB report estimated that for the year ended March 31, 2013, DRB-HICOM was poised to register a revenue of RM18.75 billion and a net profit of RM685.5 million.

Volkswagen Golf remains No.1 in Europe
Posted on January 22, 2012 11:30 PM

Though its total volume in 2011 was 1.6% lower than in 2010, the Volkswagen Golf retained its top position on the sales chart of Europe. A total of 484,547 units were sold in 27 countries according to data compiled by JATO Dynamics.

Another Volkswagen model – the Polo – was No.2 with 356,490 units sold (0.5% more than 2010) while the Ford Fiesta was in third place with 348,465 units.

Volkswagen Polo's increased sales took it to No. 2 position
while deliveries of the Fiesta (right) totalled 348,465 units to place it as No. 3 in Europe

Germany was the largest new vehicle market
in Europe and the only one where more than
3 million vehicles were sold in 2011
The Golf accounted for 28.9% of sales for Volkswagen which was also the best-selling brand in Europe, having seen a 9.1% increase in total volume during 2011. Audi, in the same group, also grew by almost the same percentage, beating BMW by almost 40,000 units and Mercedes-Benz by 88,342 units. Toyota just made it into the top 10 rankings despite a 9.4% decline in sales to 532,437 units.
The total industry sales volume for Europe declined by 1.2% to 13,543,179 units from 13,707,246 units the year before. Germany was the largest market (3,173,634 units), followed by France and Great Britain but the biggest growth of 72.5% was recorded in Latvia. Sales in both Greece and Portugal contracted by a bit more than 30%.

so who can get those goodies frm asx n install to ours? :-

The Mitsubishi ASX compact cross-over SUV has been upgraded for 2012 and now comes with 17-inch alloy rims, premium leather upholstery with enhanced comfort, a smart key and a push-start operating system.

Other standard equipment of the ASX, which has a 2-litre MIVEC 150 ps engine and 6-speed continuously-variable transmission (CVT), includes a telescopic steering column, colour LCD Multi-Info Display, and a 2DIN touchscreen. To aid parking and reversing, the ASX comes with front and rear sensors as well as a rear view camera.
In the safety department, the ASX has standard Active Stability Control (ASC) and Hill Start Assist (HSA) besides 4-wheel ABS with Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), pretensioners and force limiters seatbelts as well as dual-stage SRS airbags plus a driver's knee airbag.

Priced at RM141,995.30 (about RM2,000 more than the 2011 model), the new 2012 ASX is available with four colour choices - White Pearl, Mica Black, Red Metallic and Titanium Grey. Purchasers also get to enjoy a 3-year/100,000 km warranty as well as Mitsubishi's 2-year free maintenance package.

The new model will be in Mitsubishi showrooms from this Thursday (February 2, 2012).

Although it’s been mentioned last year that Mitsubishi Motors has been considering assembly of the ASX in Malaysia in future, the model is still currently imported in Completely Built-Up (CBU) form from Japan, along with models such as the Lancer, Grandis and Pajero.

Warranty... Better not mess with rims until tayar botak then got excuse to change tyres and rims together....

If u guys notice the boot is using hydraulics to lift them... I thought hydraulics only for hatchback or aeroback type cars..., hydraulics give another part to change further down the road

Vios i think uses counter weight to help lift the boot...
