We all better move on. No point of arguing with those United fans. Bro Duke, any plans for the Cup Final. I have like 10-15 of us wanting to join the viewing party. Any suggestions?
*
Not made any plans yet mate but I'll keep you posted. I'm more of a beer and chips rather than a roti and teh type of guy if you don't mind smile.gif

what if i called indian man, flying spaghetti monster or pariya? is that racist? judge it by yourself...
no offense...negro is really a sensitive word.

True but we aren't trying to say that one thinks of rainbows when they hear the word. We're trying to say that Suarez has a case when he and every other Uruguayan that has commented has a point when they say it's socially acceptable where they come from. All the FA had to say was, "too bad, it's not acceptable here". Kau tim. Instead they decided to study videos to determine if his body language suggests Suarez meant it as "you effing n******" rather than "porque ne***?" Then they say that he "probably" did.

The hypocrisy of it all. We haven't exactly been the darlings of the media of late have we? The fact that the biggest match in the Premiership calender came secondary to whether or not 2 players would shake hands tells you the media have got their priorities anything but right? When was the last time a handshake was given this much prominence? If you read the headlines, you'll see people telling us what we should do. "Liverpool must apologise". "Liverpool must get rid of Suarez". "Liverpool's owners must get involved". Well, Liverpool did apologise so what would you have us do next? Funny we get many so called experts telling us how we should deal with racism when they haven't yet managed to eliminate it from England. Instead they tell people from countiries like Uruguay how it should be dealt with, a country with much less racial issues. A country where black players have featured for decades. Well whatever sells papers. What I have an issue with is Fergie imparting his wisdom on us telling us what we should do. Well now Mr. Ferguson, before we heed your advice may I first highlight a few things to you?

Come on, innocent mistake? Dude knew that the knives are out and everyone wants the two of them to shake hands. Again, the politics behind it are rubbish, but a simple act of shaking hands would have sufficed.

Now the club had to say sorry, the manager had to say sorry. Suarez was being a childish idiot, and for me he should pay the price.
*
Nah I don't think it was an innocent mistake on the part or Suarez. Whether or not Evra dropped his hand doesn't change the fact that he has no love for the Frenchman and wasn't exactly jumping at the opportunity to shake his hand. It's easier said than done to be completely unperturbed by the incident, be the bigger person and shake hands. Putting myself in his shoes, I'd not shake hands with someone I do not like. What Suarez did wrong however was he told the club he'd shake hands. If he had been forthcoming and refused to do so, the club could have petitioned for the ceremony to be canceled just as QPR and Chelsea did. Yes, the club has to take internal action for being deceived.

Football seriously is becoming a little soft. Gone were the days where elbows and tackles from behind were allowed. These days a good old "English" challenge will get you sent off. Players and referees are garbed in bubble wrap. One cannot help but wonder how teams could play with 14 players for a whole season despite how hard the game was. Even if you put the physical aspect of the game aside, softness is still prevalent. Players can't celebrate with too much enthusiasm, they can't remove their shirts, they can't utter profanities, they can't touch a fellow player. Men have been made to become soft. I've little doubt that a lot of this has to do with the fact that coverage of games have grown so much, that football associations have been tasked with turning it into a PG-13 sport. Boo.

Ferguson has had his remark over what we should do with Suarez questioned. Why? Simply because he never saw it fit to punish his players or himself for the same petulance. However with the PG-13 rating firmly imposed now, players and managers have to apologize for even looking at the camera wrong. If players or managers don't, then the media plays its role of headmaster, raps them on the knuckles and forces them into an apology. Such is the power of the media these days. Do they have their moral compass pointing in the right direction though? By insisting that players and managers apologise even if they aren't sincere about it, they advocate dishonesty don't they?

QUOTE(madmoz @ Feb 14 2012, 09:19 AM)
Let me ask you this - if Suarez is not genuinely sorry for damaging LFC's reputation, would you still want him in the dressing room?

I won't, even if it means we are weaker as a result.
Perhaps after the turmoil of GH, winning really seems secondary to me nowadays and I seem to care more about the general well-being of the club. Less passionate maybe, but still a bona fide supporter laugh.gif
*
Indeed. If a player doesn't want to play or doesnt care for the club, it's something we can do without. The thing is Suarez is being forced into an apology just because so much was made of the incident. I'm sure he's apologetic for tarnishing the reputation of the club but certainly not for snubbing Evra. I believe the two are mutually exclusive. He should have just said outright that he didn't want anything to do with Evra and the whole handshake ceremony could have been canceled. Instead, he deceived the club. I hate the fact though that everyone is so willing to offer an opinion on the matter. When was the last time you remember this much pressure being piled onto one player? Wish that everyone would mind their own business and sort out their own affairs first.

Suarez is a rash and unpredictable character, I'll say that much. He's petulant and whines a little too much on the pitch for my liking. If he wasn't so passionate, and if he were a little shittier of a player one could mistake him for El-Hadji Diouf but it is exactly just that for which I like him - passion. He hates to lose and he hates not playing. Unfortunately this isn't just limited to the pitch. Immaturity is something that often comes with age but being in the spotlight like he is, he needs to grow up fast. True, if you have to fake it for the greater good, then it's what you have to do. As Shakespeare put it, "Life is a stage and we are all actors". Sometimes we have to put what we want aside to fill certain roles. Personally, I don't give two hoots that Suarez snubbed Evra because I hate him as well. However this issues is beyond the individual and he should do what's best for the club.

I believe that anyone is capable of redeeming themselves. Showing passion on the field is a move in the right direction.

QUOTE(Adryan @ Feb 15 2012, 07:59 AM)
Well, I don't enjoy seeing cheats as well but we have to now accept that it's part and parcel of football. Every single team has one player who "goes down too easily" or "exaggerates contact".

But, don't think many will complain if they did bring back some silverware to Anfield.
Agreed.

There are other players in our current team that deserve our attention.
*
That's the reality of it. If you want to stop the criticism, win games. You don't hear the mancs talk about the Glazers anymore despite being saddled with massive debt. You don't hear the Newcastle fans asking for Mike Ashley to leave despite him having sold some of their best players awhile back.

While passion, enthusiasm and ability doesn't make it right for a person to cheat, it at the very least means that fans will give you time to clean up your act. Take Ronaldo and Drogba as examples.

I shared the same sentiment about Suarez when rumours of us wanting to sign him first surfaced. Didn't like what he did at the World Cup at all. Until today he tends to go down easily and moans whenever decisions don't go his way. I do hate that side of him. When we signed El Hadji Diouf, it was a hate-hate relationship all the way. His petulance was there for all to see so much so that his nickname went from "Serial Killer" to "Cereal Eater" in a heartbeat. He showed little respect to his opponents but worse still, he showed little respect to our own fans and the club. One could argue that Suarez has shown little respect for the club but for that he has apologised. He may finally have learned a lesson, only time will tell. What makes Suarez different from Diouf though is that he's shown a great deal of commitment on the field. Then Anfield faithful appreciate effort more than any other I dare say. Why else would we still talk about the Meijer's and Biscan's? Because they tried. Suarez tries his best every game and the joy of scoring and winning is there for all to see on his face.

I don't think anyone likes to see him diving or moaning but we do see something worth salvaging. It is at the moment more of a love-hate relationship we have with him. I'd like to think that we are amongst the most patient fans and I'm willing to wait to see if he'll clean up his act and become the great player he clearly has the potential to be. He's now been punished by the FA and reprimanded by the club. I'm eagerly waiting to see how he responds.

Don't understand why the handball incident created such a negative image for Suarez. He was literally in tears when he was sent off for God's sake.

On the other hand, Thierry Henry committed a handball that (For those who have short term memory loss, France was horrible that WC and didn't deserve to qualify.) sent Ireland out of qualification. Not only he went unpunished, he pretended that it was a fair goal.

Henry returned to the Premier League 2 months ago and he's called a legend. Suarez, on the other hand, is labelled a cheat.

Go figure.
*
Which reinforces a point I brought up earlier, that the reason Suarez is given so much attention is because he plays for Liverpool FC but not because anyone has an agenda against us. That's just speculation. But because Man Utd and Liverpool have massive support around the globe and have been intense rivals for decades. If Henry had played for Man Utd, Liverpool fans would constantly remind him of what he did and vice versa. If Suarez were playing for Spurs, we won't still be talking about that incident. Issues of racism, violence, cheating all come secondary when it's Liverpool vs. Man Utd.

Everyone is speaking up against racism all of a sudden which is easy because it costs you nothing to do so. You'll be surprised to see how many suddenly become quiet when you ask for 10 bucks from each of them monthly to donate to anti-racism causes. Put your money where your mouth is if you really mean it. We are all hypocrites in our own right. We speak out against cheating but we'll have no qualms doing it if the gains are rich enough. We complain about corruption but bribe cops when it benefits us. We have a moral compass but sometimes, it points in the wrong direction. Players are no different.

QUOTE(LucasPSS @ Feb 15 2012, 07:39 PM)
Hey guys, jus wondering, what's ur opinion if KD were to relieve gerrard from his captain duty in the team and maybe give him the role as vice captain or better, none. I personally felt that its a sensible choice to do so as I always felt that when he play, he puts too much pressure on himself, too much, as every1 is expecting for him do create some miracle moment like spectacular long shots, excellent crosses.. and thus hindering his performance for us, no doubt he is a good leader, but his time is pass and we can no longer put the whole responsibility of coming in wit excellent runs and spectacular shots to him anymore , it will be a bonus if he does though.. Perhaps by ticking him off his captain role, he could perform much better?! As for who is gonna replace him, that's the question.. I'm thinking reina is a very excellent choice.. And a few more years later, lucas biggrin.gif
*
I don't see any merit in this if I'm to be honest. Handing him the captaincy transformed Gerrard into the player he is today. I don't think he feels the pressure at all. He's been accustomed to carrying the team on his back. I reckon the players will revolt if anyone chooses to strip him of the armband. I also think that in the position that he plays, he's the best person to wear the armband. He's up and down the pitch all the time and can speak to players on either end. I don't really like the idea of having keepers as captains because although they have a good view of what's happening, they can't communicate with the forward line except while defending corners. The captain is essentially an on-field manager.

On a side note, Piers Morgan is a git and no one likes him. Remember his twitter war with Rooney? Well in this case Morgan won as Rooney isn't the sharpest tool in the shed is he?Also he once got KOed by Jeremy Clarkson.

Agreed that Piers Morgan is a pretentious arse, have been calling for Wenger's head for donkey years. He should stick to his television shows and stay away from football commentary.

And yes, Twitter is an evil place. It shows that no matter how famous they are, they are humans who troll, flame and rant like a newcomer to Internet forums.

I do follow Luis Suarez's postings - not on Twitter, but on Facebook - and his updates are... well, surprisingly... matured.

In this day and age, would it be surprising to find out that some footballers engage publicists?

I have thought of it, but it doesn't seem to be scripted or proof-read (Although the recent public apology clearly is). Plus, they are usually updated straight after matches or events. If one didn't know better, one would assume he's just another footballer who is also a family person.

It was just a thought. All in all I'm inclined to agree with you. Suarez the Petulant seems to appear only when he takes the pitch. Seems pretty level headed off it.

It's expected that the whole of Uruguay back Suarez. They understand the cultural differences and Suarez is a national sports icon. Having said that, it says something that the president himself has voiced his support for Suarez. What's nice to see is that the Ajax fans, of which a fair number are black, are showing their support for him. So much for him being racist eh?

Andy Carroll scored a good goal but wasted a few decent chances. He was pretty much contained by El Abd in the first half and failed to lose his marker. He should have try to get into the blind side of the defenders instead of falling down like softie everytime he got nudged.
Carroll had a pretty quite first half but showed more fight in the second. It was nice to see him rise majestically whenever he threw himself at the ball. Didn't like that he went down easily in the first half but I reckon he wanted to get the attention of Andre Marriner to ignored the fact that El Abd was molesting him during corners. Marriner didn't even have a word with El Abd let alone blow for an infringement. Talking about softies, the same could be said as Carroll was bulldozing his way through the Brighton defenders in the second half and they were falling like flies.

I don't think there's any dispute that the ball cross the line. No one protested and even on TV, it looks pretty clear that it did cross the line.

I'm still a little perplexed as to how our wall was so ineffective. I guess we left gaps rushing to close the ball down as the free-kick was played to Lua-Lua. Regardless, I don't think any keeper would have got down to it.

Decent game all in all. It wasn't played at a high tempo, at least not until Brighton conceeded their third and had to adopt a more attacking lineup, bringing on Vicente in place of a defender. If not for Carlderon's superb clearance from Suarez, Kuyt's header on to the post and Suarez's penalty miss, it could have been more.

I don't think liv fans should call torres a backstabber. If i remember correctly, he requested for transfer AFTER liv has acquired suarez, right? that means he doesn't want to leave liv without a proper striker, that's why he waited until the club acquired a striker. in other words, although he feels he won't win anything with liv, he stills feels responsible for liv's well being. my 2 cents
*
What leaves a sour tastes in the mouths of many Kopites isn't that he requested for a transfer though that would have been bad enough. It's that he requested for a transfer just 3 weeks after pledging his loyalty and immediate future to the club. He went back on his word. He left because he felt the club went back in it's promise on building a title winning side. He felt the club was sliding backwards despite the signing of Suarez, appointment of Dalglish and arrival of John Henry and his merry bunch. One would have thought that this was a statement of intent from the club, to build not just a team, but a club who would compete for major honours. All this does suggest that in the end, he left for more money. I don't think we can blame players for coming and going these days. All we can ask is that they be honest. Having said that he didn't do a McManaman and leave us for free. I still remember him fondly and I loved doing the Torres bounce and chanting his song whenever he scored. However, I don't know if I can ever trust him again.

Torres is not "Judas", Meireles is! Anyway, I don't think he will return to Anfield, but who knows someday later he will go Old Toilet? Ops, I mean Old Traford la.  icon_rolleyes.gif
*
I need to set this straight. When Meireles was signed by Roy Hodgson he took a paycut but was promised an increment at the end of the season. However as luck (for us anyway) would have it, Tom & Jerry bailed, leaving John Henry in charge. The latter had a different vision for the club, preferring to invest in high potential young players rather than ageing established stars. Hence he was told that he would not be getting an increment in light of the new wage bill. So, what exactly did he do wrong? Get your facts straight mate.
