Hi,

I'm not sure if cornice is the right word but i'm planning to do this for my windows.

Is there such cornice for the top part or must it be done with cement?

this is not cornice, cast by concrete or brick

that part is to prevent water dropped into the windows...alternative is install awning

Contractor slang is "topi"

For the house in the picture is more for look, cause the ceiling already good to prevent water.

Precast lightweight moulding (factory made) is cheaper to fix(nail/glue). Comes in different shapes and sizes.
It consists of an outer layer of cement plaster with the core filled with foam polystrene.
Used to be popular when decorative trimmings on building facades were in fashion.

The window in the picture would have looked better with the border uniform all round.
Cornice is the decorative border piece around the edges of the ceiling.

It can be GRC, light weight concrete or the material mentioned by tehtmc.
Best material should be the one mentioned by tehtmc, cheap, easy to work on and durable.
