Not always required to calibrate the gyro.
You can download sensor list to test that the gyro is working.
It has 3 axis that you can use to gauge that the sensor is working right.

I can test for you, on stock rom with speedmod kernel.

I tried CF root b4, got a slight lag when scrolling between homepages, neak is silky smooth. Even in go launcher vertical 4d scrolling is silky smooth, no lag, which convince me to stick with NEAK 

Well it ain't moving for sure, before, during or after calibration.

Do you know what's a gyro sensor for?
If it maintains in the center, it means its calibrated correctly.

If it moves, it means the gyro isn't correct.

The gyro should maintain position at center no matter where the phone is tilted. That's the function of a gyro.

If it moves, and if you want it to move, you should be looking at an accelerometer, gravity sensor or tilt sensor. Not a gyro.

It's for reference orientation, thats why calibrate on flat surface.
Whether its horizontal or tilted i don't think it matters.

What matters is that the surface is flat so the phone doens't wobble when its calibrating.

Anyway, it's an orientation tool. If you're concerned with the sensor working or not, a calibration tool isn't a testing tool.

Because it being 3 axis.

Imagine the axis as follows

From top to bottom of phone => 1
Left side to right side => 2
Screen to battery cover => 3

The 3 axis must maintain "always up" on the gyro for the ball to remain at 0 position.

If one of the axis not working, the ball will move off center.

Great, my external sd card corrupted, now have to recopy all my stuff in there

Thats weird, first my phone can detect the sdcard, but nothing inside, so i plug it into my laptop, it told me to format, so i try to format, then it say something like error. So now i put the sd card back into phone, boot up phone and connect phone to laptop via usb mass storage, and now i can see all my files in my external sd card

i always format in the phone first then only copy back all the data

1. doesnt perform safety removal before removing
2. next time plug in, windows will ask to repair.
3. clicked repair, u r doomed. windows repair will change the datas inside and make the sd card/ pendrive unreadable in android.

tested this fking many times on my pendrive when using OTG in my SGSII. dont ever try to repair it
