It’s been a while we’ve seen or heard of Western Digital’s massively awesome platter-based storage solution, the WD VelociRaptor. When it was first launched, the VelociRaptor was one of the most sought after storage devices due to its high read-write speeds and capacity. Like all the previous generation of VelociRaptor HDDs, the current gen features a whopping 10,000 RPM spin rate, which maximises the read and write speeds of the drives utilising the SATA III 6.0Gbps interface. The beauty of the VelociRaptor isn’t just in how fast its data transfer speed is, which by the way checks out at about 200MB/s when connected to a SATA III interface, but also how fast it is capable of accessing data in the blink of an eye, making even the staunchest of SSD hardcore fans nod in agreement that this platter-based drive is the closest thing to the flash-based drive’s performance.
