IDE and sata don't really contribute to how long a device will last. they are just interfaces. I still have a bundle of IDE drves that are still working and lasted longer than some of my sata drives.

Also since when IDE is cheaper?

btw Sata was introduced as an upgrade for IDE

Basically you can read yourself about it there. Btw as SATA is an upgrade for IDE, there is no logical reason for IDE to have any advantages over SATA
