thx for the info.. was thinking to get wd red but many said that in NAS they would perform.. if only for single home use better try seagate 3tb... but 3 years warranty scheme would buy me in...

for me ssd more reliable since no moving part which especially good when moving the storage.. as for HDD alway fear when moving it although not alot...HDD have been here long time already.. mature enuf .. although SSD is catching up.. but all of it this all electronic part whether SSD or HDD..never know when they will die.. warranty just temporary luck...hehe.. u say new win 8 make HDD more faster...stilll me smiling writing this using SSD coz not onli boot up fas ..alll is fast..easy example is try decompress 1gb winrar file using SSD and HDD...u can see big gap actually..

u do decompress every day/every hour?

win8 does make boot time fast, not make HDD do everything else fast.

ssd more reliable in theory only, yet to be proven in long term testing biggrin.gif
warranty length does have an indirect clue about if the HDD is more realiable than those have shorter warranty. But still very subjective.

ya.. i decompress more than 1gb per day... let say boot time 10 sec.. still many app take time to load.. in hdd u cant multi task much using ur HDD.. let say unzip file while load app.. can but abit long time... Ramdisk is no permanent for solution to create caching wat u use the most.. if ram disk were good enuf nobody will buy SSD in the first place.. can get so many ram with cheap price now days.. stability issue depend on controller.. previously i used Sandforce famous BSOD issue.. yeah b4 they fix the issue i scare me lot.. then i put into lappy after RMA no issue for..then i buy Marvel controller which bit slow.. not noticeable unless u've use to Sandforce controller.. but then no issue till today...response time and speed which SSD suite me in...

1 x 1tb since require less space in casing less sata slot less power less heat in casing.. the con is if 1 platter got issue the whole HDD might be in trouble..vice versa 2 x 500gb

erm... it is not like that...WD have rework line in which our small minority HDD goes.. we are not large customer.. premium customer will have their own production line..normally with 00 number in HDD model number..they have lots( yes, lots) part for 1 model of HDD..as our HDD is less then 10% on daily production line..

In the HDD, there's a pair of magnets that are strong enough that you really don't want your fingers to be between them when they snap together.

I don't understand why magnets is a popular thing to use to erase HDDs when the HDDs already have the strongest magnets that I have encountered located next to the platters themselves. rclxub.gif

Edit: Oh, that explains it. Somewhat. http://www.dansdata.com/magnets.htm#drivemags

Edit 2: And this one appears to debunk the magnet myth, at least in 2006. http://cobolhacker.com/2006/10/28/is-it-po...e-with-magnets/

The magnet sit not between the disc.. and they not effecting the disc data...the magnet does impress me bcoz they are relativity small but powerful interm of stick to metal but not that much to snap finger..

as wat i know there two type of magnet that either gonna effect or not.. for speaker mostly satellite speaker will have magnetic shield label shown that will not affect HDD or even monitor.. if u still have crt monitor try take magnet put on the glass screen u will see rainbow colour at the screen.. unless the magnet as such subwoofer which normally not magnetic shield then better put not near to PC casing...

what type of solenoid u think maybe in HDD? as far as i remember no solenoid were included in the manufacturing process..

WD Red may not be suitable as a single disk bootdisk. See the random transfer test below.

http://www.storagereview.com/western_digit...review_wd30efrx

However it really shine at sequential transfer tests hence its suitability in RAID boxes.

You will get better performance with WD Blue as a bootdisk.
*
even quoted in your link provided WD RED still a great single drive.

"We tested our batch of eight WD Red hard drives in varying configurations ranging from single drive to 2, 5 and 8-bay Synology NAS deployments. In terms of performance, the WD Red did very well not only as a single drive, but increased proportionally as we scaled up the testing in the Synology DiskStations. "
