What was their (ie. Achieva Tech) response? Will they provide the courier service (ie. send to Singapore) themselves? unsure.gif
Don't know bout sending to SG, they only said RMA need bout 10 days, so now just gonna wait...

no receipt needed, only need to provide S/N for warranty checking...

Hi guys, I've been wanting to get a new hard disk for a long time now but the rise in prices kept me waiting.
Is there anyone who knows if WD 2TB My Passport is available in KL or even in Ipoh and the prices?
I'm not very knowledgeable in hard disks so if you have any suggestions or comments, please do post.
The hard disk is mainly for storage, nothing heavy.

Hi guys just run the SMART test on my WD C.Blue 500gb hdd this morning and the results show raw read error rate = Failed...

here's the screenshot of the test (run via HD tune and WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic)

[attachmentid=2928562]

judging from the results, my only choice is to RMA the HDD right?

*when i shutdown the PC, i can heard some grinding noise from the hdd.... sweat.gif

Perhaps the old HD Tune 2.55 that you are using is bugged and doesn't correctly report if your drive is on the verge of total failure? You might want to check with some other utilities.

Also, please note that SMART is not a guaranteed signal for health. HDDs are known to fail even if they don't give off any SMART signals of failure. If we were to make an analogy, SMART is like the medical doctors from 100 years ago, who didn't quite understand how our bodies fail.

Seagate has been returning you different models and capacities for that one original HDD? If that is the case, it may simply be a case of really bad luck. If possible, you could try to see if you could escalate and demand that they certify that the HDD is sent to you in good working condition or something.

Or perhaps maybe your PSU is in a bad condition now, and has been damaging any HDD you plug into it? Or it could be a bad SATA wire? You may need to test with another desktop.

Thanks for the insight. Looks like all Western Digital HDD RMAs will be handled by Achieva... rclxms.gif

All of them, or one particular model? By the way that SV35 is not meant for desktop/PC usage. You may get data "errors" (missed data) due to its design. Also for the other HDDs, there could other factors such as heat, vibration, bad PSU (e.g. unstable rails, high ripples, etc), bad connectors (e.g. loose, dust/dirt,oxidation, etc), etc... hmm.gif

Unstable power supply can cause motor damage. I have had a couple of HDD failures, but never had any since I changed my PSU to a good quality one - could be just luck or it could be the good PSU is good for my HDDs.

Any PSU with the 80+ certification should be good and there are a few sub-80+ PSUs that are also good. There are quite a bit of PSU reviews, but if you want a list of suggestions, you could try looking for an existing related topic or open a new one in the HW Q&A forum.

Do you mind give us your full PC specs? Includes every single thing, PSU, chassis that you use, etc.
And if possible age of each item, just roughly how many years.
Those information can helps us choose your PSU, and may help rectify other issue.
