oh my..........better change the HDD ASAP. Back up all of your files while it still able to run.
Reallocated sector count more than "0" = bad sectors exist inside HDD, and it will grow larger and larger.

how much difference is there between a 7200rpm plugged into SATA3 and 7200rpm plugged into SATA2
*
non-noticeable, as the read/write rates of HDD are well below 3.0 Gbps.

Last time one of the most reliable HDD drive was the Hitachi 2TB with 4 platters, it was voted for it's reliability due to it's high manufacturing QC.

Overall never had much of a bad experience with their drives compared with other brands though Hitachi HDD are kinda harder to find in some stores compared to other brands.

Few years ago we got Samsung and WD Black 1TB which are very reliable, the former one is cheap and reliable, the later one is durability.

But currently i dare not to say much for "most reliable HDD Drive" as my WD Black 1TB managed to fail me within 2 years doh.gif
But most of us will agree on that "most reliable SSD brand" smile.gif

mind sharing ur wd black 1tb story with us?
usually the wd black i face just minor issue which consist of only 1 bad sector, and those black wd drive still able to let me backup data to another hdd. so far only 2 out of 5 got such case happened on me and my fren.
*
IINM in March, I shocked when my PC run HDDcheck during bootup, like deleting files and recover files.
Feeling it must be something to do with my HDD, i went on to run HD Tune and get the following results of my C Drive :

14 pending sector count on my WD black doh.gif
gonna RMA it soon.

Update: 3 bad sectors detected sad.gif
Oh great, 16 Pending sectors. doh.gif
*
Initial it got 12 current pending sectors, upon googling i realize it is another meaning of bad sectors, so i do backup ASAP.
After 3 weeks, my PC hang when surfing internet, knowing that the HDD had reach its date, i force shutdown my PC and restart......I cannot see anything on my monitor, not even BIOS Splash screen!

One good thing of WD Black is we may have ample time to do backup before it finally gave up sad.gif

oh, ur wd is normal black performance or black RE Enterprise model?
coz all 5 unit i bought are wd black re4 enterprise, consider better than black wd performance, but mahal another rm50 only, worth to buy after all.
*
normal Black.
Enterprise grade is too far for me (Still a student in the time i bought my PC), and i think they use SAS interface which may lead to compatibility issue for normal mobo hmm.gif

The magnet sit not between the disc.. and they not effecting the disc data...the magnet does impress me bcoz they are relativity small but powerful interm of stick to metal but not that much to snap finger..
*
that magnet will come in handy when you need to unscrew some REALLY TINY screws, like the glasses/watch/HDDs.

i dont think that hdd magnet is that strong
*
i mean it will stick those tiny screws after you had unscrew them.
Sometimes it is very hard to find those screws if we simply put those screws elsewhere, more troublesome IF we accidentally drop it.

Let me share my experience with WD, i had 2 Black 320GB, 1 500 GB, the trio was very durable but noisy, lasted me for 5 year i eventually sold them off while there was no single bad sectors or SMART error.
The nightmare started afteri bought WD Green 1 TB, Black 2TB and AV-GP 3TB, i have 5 of them all went RMA just over 12 months of usage, all have bad sectors.
the Latest one is AV-GP 3TB, just rma-ed a few weeks ago.
Now using Toshiba 3TB RAID0 sweat.gif  doh.gif  shakehead.gif
*
another WD Black user here...Had RMA a WD 1TB just after 1 and half year of usage doh.gif
Really need to pray to god so that they can be as lasting as my good old 60GB laptop HDD (touchwood).

use ext HDD as less time as possible, it will prolong its life; ext HDD aren't designed to operating for days.
most importantly....DO NOT DROP IT!!!
