Would like to know what you guys think about Transcend Ext. HDD 1TB StoreJet 25H3P or 25M3 ? Reliable ?

Also comparison of Transcend and WD/Seagate Ext HDD ?

For RM 320, i can get same capacity of 1TB and USB 3.0 but Transcend has anti-shock (drop tested) whereas WD/Seagate does not have.

Just bought WD Blue 500GB yesterday and encounter the "Humming" sound issue.
At first I though it was the WD drive problem till I google up.

Looks like there's some "incompatibility" between Samsung Spinpoint and WD drive.
This guys had the same exact problem like me

If u google up "WD Humming", you could see alot of results relate to SS Spinpoint or vise versa.

For budget, you may want to look at Hitachi drives. I think you can only get 1TB and 2TB drives and they are slightly more pricey than the normal Seagate / WD drives. You would probably have to settle for WD drives as warranty replacement if you happen to claim warranty for the Hitachi drive.
I was told that when you send back a Samsung drive for warranty, you get a Seagate. You sure you got a Samsung back?
Benchmarks not too shabby but I'm not too fond of the Green drives. I think I'm going to try my luck with the 3TB Red.

Either brand is fine, nowadays you should look at their warranty instead, good RMA service or long warranty period so you can at least get some return value for the drive that you use, not hurt when broke down only after 1-year (1-year warranty)
Best right now would be WDC (Western Digital) I guess, better warranty.

IMHO the price is reasonable, better than buying 1TB.

last year buy 2TB WD 2.5" internal harddisk..2 months ago went corrupt..disk become raw..cannot format..my friend say it is due to boot sector error..i use all kind of harddisk rescue software but still cannot use.. :'(

Wanna share another good RMA experience with WD.
As always, I used their courier service, strangely though it was free; there was a msg on the RMA page saying they normally charge but currently it's free.

Took them like 2 weeks to pickup my dead HDD (Green 500GB), had to email them several times since the courier guy FFK twice.

Today I got my replacement, a re-certified 3"5 WD Black 500GB (WD5001AALS)

Just checked the details, RMA created 15 Sept, courier pickup 5 Oct, replacement received 11 Oct.

I didn't come to a conclusion that it is WD Black model because of the sticker (there's no green/blue/black wording), but because of the MDL (google this WD5001AALS). It is also heavier than the green.

Plus the drive gets hot fast, another 'trademark' of the Black series.. lol.
I am just luckier than you perhaps? Not the first time something like this has happened.. last time I RMAed a 1TB MyBook Essential and got a 2TB version in return. Others have reported something similar as well.

Hi sifus, my hdd died yesterday so im planning to buy wd 1 tb hdd.
my question is, when i want to install windows os, should I make a partition just for os like 100gb or install it without partition?

Thx for the advise. Thought that when the video players like mpc or vlc attempts to read other partition's/different drive to play mp3/movie files, it'll tends to degrade the performance of drive. It's like local streaming in between drives which requires read/write process. Guess it's my misunderstanding.

Never have i got so particular into purchasing HDD in the past. But eversince losing over 700gb of movies,mp3,work and other games installed has cause me to be extremely vary of choosing my HDD from now on. I had purchased many WD HDD before and none had failed me even after 5 years of useage. This green died on me after exactly 2 years of useage. That's where the warranty went dead too.

So far lookin into the forums, it's like most dealers in the garage section had been took overwhelmed by WD sellers. There are seagates but they sell normal ones and it's reputable to malfunction easily. The only ones i saw that hangs around the RM290 tag are the sv35 cctv type hdd which is recommended by most for it's durability over 24/7 stressing. The one selling a brand new sv35 1tb wasn't even from lowyat's garage.

There are enterprises one but i'm unsure of it's quality. I dont read the statics since 1% and 0.74% annual failure rate kind of like transparent to me. i just pray that they dont died after exact 2 yrs.

2 years before,when i dont remember.  I might or might not have the receipt. But the hdd has a date imprinted on it. It's written as 28 january 2010.Thanks for pointing out. I thought is 2years only. Not sure if they will handle rma for non receipt case.

Just checked WD's site for warranty scan. Warranty in effective till 03/06/2013. Would have just let it to rot if u didnt mention it.
Same as me.At first i noticed a wierd problem when i play mp3 and movie, my winamp would freeze. Movie could play but when i attempt to scroll through, it would freeze too. Eventually one of my partition turn into raw.It's the partition where all my movies and mp3 reside on. I immediately did a chkdsk on the raw partition and luckily partition was restored. All files were recovered. And during the the process, it returned bad sectors results. After that once in a while, mp3 and movies would happen the same thing. And finally one day , while booting, it refuse to boot into windows. It just stuck on the black blank screen. I had to restart a few times by hitting the switch to boot into windows. And when i got into windows, the whole HDD had vanished along with the other partition.

Lol... Another green user with problem.. looks like even after rma. I will use it as backup. It will probably not last. I had heard quite a couple of problems with green hdd. Some had mention abt thier intellispeed function tat causes the problem. If users who plan to use the hdd for means of music,video and gaming, it recommended to stay away frm wd's intellispeed or any other brand with this feature.
