Was thinking of getting a Yamato Macross 1/60 VF-1S figure from HLJ. From what I have read in this topic, there wont be customs charges as long as the value is below RM500.

However, after currency conversion, it will cost just over RM500 (around RM518 to be precise) inclusive of EMS shipping to Malaysia. Was wondering if there is still a high chance of it being taxed by customs?

Haha. Luck as usual. I'm in the UK at the moment and usually customs wont charge anything if the value is GBP18 and below. I ordered an item worth GBP30 and I shipped it using SAL which as mentioned by lots of local collectors to be the least likely to kena any charges. Some mentioned they even have large boxes worth GBP80 pass through with no problems. BUT mine got picked off by the customs vmad.gif

Guess it was just my luck la. Btw, how much would customs charges usually sum up to if i ordered something from Japan to Malaysia? Will be back in 2 months time so thought of looking at the options whistling.gif

Wait a while longer and refer to the exchange rate on the custom page.... Yen is expected to fall... is 0.0346 this week... expected lower tmrw./next week.

Actually a 1/60 at 9800 yen, EMS is at 2400 (20% off @ 1920 yen, but CIF value calculation use 2400) Total at: 12,200 yen = RM 422.12 9 (This week)

If its the 12800 yen set (2190 shipping, but EMS actual cost will be 2700).... Total will be @ RM 536.3 (not RM518.65). You could use SAL then, it'll be below RM500 (but risky).

Actually y not get it from amiami, 15 to 20% off, with 50% off EMS (till end of April).... it'll be much below RM500 (even with the full EMS price, what kastam will use, but not what u actually pay).

Thanks alot BeastX! That's really helpful! Yea I'm looking into a 12800 yen set coz I can't seem to find one around locally (or at least not yet sweat.gif )
So what you're saying is that the import duty will be based on the original cost + shipping of the item without the promotional discounts?

I'd pass on SAL for now. Shipped with SAL a couple of times and my items arrived close to a month later and was impossible to track. Really got me worried.
Tried amiami unfortunately they don't carry the 12800 yen Yamato Super Strike Hikaru VF-1S. They're offering really great deals on shipping. Ordered a few items via EMS from them and service was great!

I'll actually be back in Msia in 2 months time so that's when I'll be hunting for one. Lets just hope that the Japanese yen would drop by then tongue.gif

i noticed that amiami has turned into a japanese website...i was wondering if anyone knows that what we've preordered previously will still be sent in an english mail, or it'll be japanese entirely?
(if japanese, then halleluyah liao...=_=)

I think the English site was down for a day or 2. Its up and running again and now with SAL unregistered shipping!

Oh and I would just like to know about customs charges like what BEastX have mentioned, is it true that the import duty will be charged based on the original cost + postage of the item even if I bought it under promotion? Coz HLJ is having discounts on EMS shipping. 20% if im not mistaken. Will they make charges based on the original cost or the cost which I have paid after discounts? icon_rolleyes.gif

Original cost as stated on the EMS sticker, you can argue with them with proof (As I had during the free shipping by HJL, 20% will be harder than 100%). The burden will be on you, to be safe just make sure the CIF with the original un-discount shipping is below RM500... safe you petrol/travel, voice, time, saliva.... etc...

Yen is 0.0349 this week (on customs.gov.my).... I'll expect it lower next week...

That makes me sad sad.gif

Haha well i guess I'll put that as my last resort if I somehow can't find it locally. Thanks a bunch for the website! Never knew it existed blush.gif
