mea calpa  - Peaking Mode is the correct term.  Personally, I find it sufficient for very bright lighting condition. If there is so much action out there, I personally find it makes not much difference if you have EVF or not, it will still be a 50/50 chance. But with peaking mode, you can spot it easily.  Perhaps my eyes are starting to give way.  Would save the money and get a prime lens instead.

As for shortage of local stock supply, one other option is mail order from HK.  I got my SEL55210 without too much issue. Came to me via DHL. Sweet and fast .

The FDA-SV1 is a cold-shoe optical viewfinder, meant to be used with the SEL16F28. This means that it's FOV is only 16mm. It will not be accurate if used with the SEL1855 or any other lens. Also, because it is purely optical, you will not get Live View Exposure simulation, or Depth of Field. It is meant purely for framing purposes, or for use in broad daylight. What you see is not what you get. At it's price, it's a terrible buy. I don't recommend it.

No Viewfinder, optical or electronic, will improve your picture quality.

Yes, a CPL will help to reduce reflections somewhat.

Octopus is bad (>RM50), Hoya is decent(>RM100), Marumi and B+W is great (<RM100).
