Plenty of options, but as with most beginner, I would recommend something light but flexible for future development. Can go for a Olympus E-M10 Mark II with a Panasonic 25mm f1.7 and Olympus 45mm f1.8 lens. Should be around RM 3.5k for all.

Thanks for the reply. I'm more tempted to get this after seeing the reviews. Is the stock lenses that comes with the body not good? Do I really have to get extra lenses? If I'm going to get only one all rounder lense, what would be your recommendation? I'm just a beginner. tongue.gif

Thing is with E-M10 Mark II, there are 3 choices of 'kit' (stock) lens. There are:

1. 14-42mm f3.5-5.6 Electronic Zoom (EZ) pancake lens which is the lightest weight of all, weighing less than 100g! This lens is no slouch, but in low light performance, you may not be happy as the aperture is not big. I shot with this lens alone for 3 years, and I would say it is a good purpose general lens with decent sharpness. Middle is good, but at the side of the pic, softness can be seen. Having said this, this lens is better than the kit lens offered by some DSLRs out there. This is also the most common combination, and can be gotten for RM 2.2k inclusive of the camera.

2. 12-40mm f2.8 is the premium version, which offers a bigger aperture for low light shots (indoor included). Sharp across all range, it is a PRO lens. But, this combination sets you back at least RM 4.8k. And this lens is heavy (by my standards, weighing 400g but still way lighter than those DSLR lenses).

3.. 14-150mm f4-5.6 superzoom / journalist lens. This combination is rare, lens performance is decent across most of the range with softness at the longer range. This of this lens as a combination of the lens #1 and 40-150mm f4-5.6, with almost similar level of optics. Biggest benefit is convenience of not swapping lens, but I don't think this fits your needs as you don't need superzoom for baby. This should also fit your budget of RM 3.5k.

The thing is this, with option #1, you should be happy with the focus and sharpness. BUT, since you will be shooting mostly indoors (since it is baby), it is better if you get a fast lens with a big aperture. Both of the lenses I recommended in my previous post offers at least a 2 stop advantage of light intake over kit lens #1, meaning allowing you to capture your baby's action with 4 times faster shutter speed. This is important as you cannot tell your baby to 'pose' for you, and you cannot use flash.

More importantly, both of those lenses are cheap, light weight, small and within your budget. In fact, I am selling one of them off now since I have extra. tongue.gif

I suggest you wait out. A6500 is complete a waste of huge sum of money for about nearly identical specs as the A6300. Sony is about to release the A6000's successor.

OR considering FF? Your budget fits A7II

Budget : RM2,500
Your Location : KL
Preferable brand : Any
Type of photography u want to do : Travelling. I'm more into videography than photography.
Any specific models in mind? : Lumix DC-GF10K / Lumix DMC-LX10
Any specific features u want? : I think my Canon 200D is too bulky to bring around for travel so I'm looking something smaller that I can hook up on a phone gimbal. What's important camera can take 4K video with great amount of bokeh. Object bokeh easy to get even with smartphone but need a good camera for human bokeh. My 200D with 50mm lens is great but as I said it's too bulky.

Thank you in advance smile.gif

You already answered your question, XT20 it is then! Olympus EM10 Mark II may be another option if you want cheaper lens. About the same size as X-T20, but dials are unmarked and customizable.

At your budget, I think you can try Canon M100, Sony a6000, Fuji XT100 or Olympus EM10 Mark II or E-PL8. I stuck with Olympus because of the overall system size, which is smaller than any other systems, in general.

my 2cents from a video guy's perspective

i used to think like u
and i did own both a6300 and a6500.
bought a6300 then sold it off to buy a6500.

bcoz at the time, getting a6300 + gimbal = price of a6500
at the end of the day, video need the ibis (in body stabilization) even better when on gimbal.
when not using gimbal, all the minor shakes even on monopod or tripod or slider you'll see on the footage later on bigger screen.
the additional feature ; touch screen is really2 useful.
both ibis + touch screen is worth the money.

*buy a6300 if u
- dont have budget for a6500
- saving budget to buy gimbal
- has or will be buying optical stabilized lenses

TLDR ; both ibis + touch screen is worth the money.

Since you're travelling, are you willing to swap DSLR for ML camera? Considering how overpriced DSLRs are becoming in Malaysia you could go with the Sony A6000 and have the extra cash to buy lenses and extra batteries (or an adapter to mount your canon lenses)

If your decision remains for DSLR, I suggest the 77/80D since you've already owned a 700D before, this is one step up in terms of built quality and features.

boss.
if i go for ML camera, how about canon m3?

I have not tried this camera personally. Maybe you can visit camera shops with demo units to play around with the camera or watch reviews on YT for the pros and cons versus Sony's offerings.

A7 III costs RM7300 for body only and the EOS RP costs RM5999 body only.

A7 II is within your budget as you can get it below RM4k for a used unit. Use the extra to get the 28-70 kit lens. Althoguht might not be ideal but still doable for the types of photography mentioned.
