Now i using Final Audio Design Adagio III. Not the high res earphone.
*
If you are looking for an upgrade in sound I would sell the Adagio and top up with your RM800 budget to get a better IEM.
If you are happy with your Adagio sound and just want a dedicated music player for convenience, i think FiiO X1 is enough though.

You guys are right. It's either htc or the cheaper Moto g.

Or some small portable speaker.

Sony has a better reputation with their audio playback in their phones than HTC IMO.
On a side note you can consider Vivo as they have their "audiophile range" phones (haven't tried them before though)

Hi guys. Currently I have the Havi B3 Pro and 64 Audio V8 in-ear monitors as my daily IEMs. My budget can stretch to RM5,000 but preferably RM4,500. Oh, refer to #7 below. tongue.gif

The main question is whether if I actually need a portable amp WITH the portable player or not for the current IEMs I have. What I am currently aiming for is Fiio X5ii + Chord Mojo, with the IEMs mentioned above. Unless you guys know a standalone DAP that can diminish the need for a portable AMP, then fire away.

What I am looking for is
1) Of course, storage capacity (higher GBs : better, currently have 2 64GB MicroSD)
2) Smooth UI (Something that does not lag with total of 3k musics in it)
3) Good battery life, enough for travelling
4) Nothing enormous. As long as it doesn't get bigger than the portable stack mentioned above then I am happy    (because I might add a portable amp in the future)
5) Balanced OR Analytical sound signature, as my V8 screams BASS BASS BASS BASS. So nothing warm or bassy.
6) A volume knob/button that is not too sensitive to avoid accidentally destroying my ears!!!!
7) Last resort is the AK240 (fml)  doh.gif (try to avoid this last option Hahaha)

I am planning to upgrade at the end of 2016 or hopefully mid 2016.  Thank you all in advance!
*
You don't need a separate amp for IEMs as they are easy to drive. You can look at ZX2 as a standalone DAP unless you are planning to use with harder to drive headphones then you'll need a separate amp for that. Don't bother spending too much on DAPs as their returns diminishes significantly more than IEMs/headphones.

Actually I tried the combo of AKT1p balanced + AK380 + docking amp, still not powerful enough to drive headphone sweat.gif

while you are here, any difference of CIEM Adel A12 and universal A12?
*
lol perhaps AK is planning to release a MK2 docking amp which cost 2x more their current dock amp tongue.gif

sorry haven't tried the universal version, but i was told that the universal might have slightly less bass and slightly raised high-mid (depending on the seal)

Guys, what about the AK240? I left the AK240 there in the list is because I see it as an endgame DAP. To me, at least, since I am not planning to get any powerful headphones. Only into IEMs as of now. But will definitely look into the ZX2 and AK100II. And of course, thank you guys for the swift reply!

THAT. But your last sentence really caught my attention. What do you think about the AK240?
*
Massdrop is having a deal on AK240 at $1659 if you are interested -> https://www.massdrop.com/buy/astell-kern-ak240

AK products are basically luxury products in hype-fi, their price do not reflect their value to me. In fact ZX2 pricing in Malaysia at launch was also quite ridiculous, but their pricing now at around RM3k isn't as bad as before now.
That said, if you are using IEMs the differences btw AK240 and ZX2 is quite minimal. Sound signature preference and features will always be the key difference between DAPs above $500 range.

At that price I'd rather get endgame cans like the Audeze LCDX but that's just me.

AK, not to say it's not good, it's hard to justify their price tags. Their sig is neutral and transparent so detailheads love them. For me I love the UI, but would never buy them new.
*
lol hence i mentioned not to bother spending so much on DAP (learned the hard way tongue.gif). Like you i'd rather invest in headphones instead.
I only like AK products for their build quality and design (from AK100 up to AK240), but other than that there's nothing really special about them.

I'm more interested in the X7 though, changeable amp modules is interesting.

I should have just buy 2nd hand from you that time cry.gif

AK price is still very expensive doh.gif

you should tell author that you must have Adel A12 to feel the difference between ZX2 and AK240 brows.gif
*
lol 2nd hand for which one? AK240?
yea especially now with USD jumping to 4.3, US sales doesn't seem that appealing to me anymore. Even the recent BF sales i only bought 1 item, and quite surprised i even bought anything... but the price was that appealing even for a lower end headphone lol

haha i know after author gets the AK240/ZX2 his next step would be to upgrade his V8.. the curse of audiophiliacs biggrin.gif

I'm curious on JH coming CIEMs though. Hopefully they depart from the Siren series...

JH & AK = BFF doh.gif

ROxanne is terrible, Angie and Layla not bad, but not my taste. laugh.gif

Yup, your past AK240 smile.gif

I know what you bought in BF brows.gif (HD598SE, and someone selling for RM900 in garage sale rclxub.gif )

HD598 is quite in a embarrassed situation, if with its retail price RM1xxx, I rather go for HD600 (which I have already)
But now pricing is so low that it can be considered a good buy.
*
lol AK is trying to be BFF with everyone.
The only thing i missed about the AK240 is the gorgeous design and feel biggrin.gif

hehe bought the 598SE mainly for movies/light gaming. It's efficient enough not to require an amp, so more cost efficient than HD600 which requires an amp. Probably not as refined as HD600, but for the price no complains smile.gif
Almost jumped on MD Fostex, but managed to hold myself back haha

Did you succumb to any BF sales temptation?

Haha true. Bcos the P1 was nearly half price was really tempted. But I haven't heard it just based off reviews. Well back to the drawing board.

I wonder when is DX200 coming out.
*
the P1 is alright, to me it sounded better than AK100II when i tried it briefly side by side, but that's just me tongue.gif

Besides the above mentioned? WHat are the other budgetted DAP?
*
Absolutely none in the current market for your budget if you want android based with wifi streaming capabilities.
Maybe Seiun Pro DAP if/when they are out in the market, but might still be more than your budget...
Just use your smart phone and get a Mi powerbank la

Hello everybody. My 6 year old Ipod Touch is dying soon. The latest models punya price seem really steep (looking for 32 gb version).

Any other recommended MP3 players to recommend which can match the ipod touch? Was thinking of just getting a second Iphone 4/5. Preferably below RM500

Take your pic:
Sony, Fiio, Hidizs, Aune, Cayin
look at their lower end range, might have to top up a bit more

Any dap below 1.5k that has 2x microsd? A friend asking me this is worried that even 1x256gb microsd support in recent daps is not enough.
*
FiiO X5 & X5ii supports 2x micro sd if I'm not mistaken. Should be well below 1.5k now that the 3rd gen is out. Except no online/internet streaming if he doesn't mind.

if you noticed in hf forum, streaming apps dont work correctly at times, and battery drain is still heavy regardless of wifi / bt on off

when i used it, the dap startup time is ridiculously slow, and there is no deep sleep instant on play like the 2nd gen
*
considering all the updates they did, would have thought the major issues would have been fixed by now lol

He doesnt use online streaming so no worries there. The X5 and X5ii only supports up to 128gb cards iinm? He wants to see if he can futureproof his dap abit with 2x256gb of storage. Maybe ill try to get him to up his budget for the x5iii instead.

Alot of recent budget daps seem to prefer implementing bluetooth support which doesnt cost that much extra i believe. Because if it does, i rather they put in a second msd slot instead of bluetooth. I guess size constraints are a problem as well since they are trying to target a wider audience with a smaller sleeker design as well as the mentioned bluetooth support.
*
If he is willing to spend 1.2k on 2 micro sd cards, I don't think money is an issue for him. Might as well ask him to get AK Kann which supports 1 full size SD card and 1 micro SD card.
