Looks like the sony a series supported format is less than fiio x1 2nd gen,is this true?
*
A35/36 support:
AAC (Non-DRM)
AIFF
ALAC
DSD
FLAC
HE-AAC
Linear PCM
MP3
WMA (Non-DRM)

X1ii suppports:
Lossless:
APE(Fast): 192 kHz/24 bit;
APE(Normal): 96 kHz/24 bit;
APE (High): 96 kHz/24 bit;
FLAC: 192 kHz/24 bit;
WAV: 192 kHz/32 bit;
Aiff:192 kHz/32 bit;
Aif:192 kHz/24 bit;
WMA Lossless: to be supported by future update;
Apple Lossless: 192 kHz/24 bit;
Lossy compression:
MP3、AAC、WMA、OGG....

So actually for me the main difference are:
1. X1ii supports APE, which is a quite comon lossless format.
2. A35/36 supports DSD (PCM conversion)

Seems like Fiio m3 offer a lot of great features as a portable player. Anyway I have not personally review any of these products.

Can consider top up a bit and go for the Hidizs AP60. Size is as tiny as M3 and also comes with a high quality earbuds.
Support DSD plaback, 2-ways bluetooth and 2-ways USB in and out. Sound signature is clean and neutral.

If your budget is up to 600, ya it's worth to try. A25 has been stopped production so the price is dropping.

M currently using iPod. Looking for a good dap and a pair of headphones

Currently using fiio ex1 iem with my iPod and axon 7.

Would like to ask if it's an upgrade from iem to over ear headphones (ath mh40x)

If I'm getting a dap, where is the best source to get lossless sounds?

You can try tsdm. www.tsdm.net. It's a chinese forum that people shares hi-res music files. Even 24bit. The downside it that it's all in chinese.

Depends the IEM you use, and depends on your preference. If you use standard apple earbuds, I would suggest upgrade your IEM 1st. In the end it is always:

IEM>Player/amp>Music Files>Cables

cables are the last snake oil you need.

I'm Currently using IEM Fiio EX-1.

Thinking if i should upgrade it? I am more towards clarity, crisp, sharpness, then bass.

I listened to mostly pop musics. Went through the site you shared, most of the musics are from anime right?

I have the best IEM for you if you are interested smile.gif I am a DIYer. My IEM have all you mentioned above. And the sound improves proportionally with the player quality. Check my DIY thread. It is using a Shure SE535 shell. The bass doesn't go as deep as dynamic earphone but the vocal and treble is tuned exclusively by me. If you are interested I can sell it to you.

There are also non anime songs. No point downloading 24bit anime songs as Japanese recordings sucks bigtime. With a good set of earphone you will hear all those recording flaws.

Depending on the quality of your music, your current wired setup will still sound better than the wireless options you are considering
