I also had this brain-wrecking problem as my folding doors faced
the front of the house and are nearly 10 ft wide.....

They were facing the west and had the afternoon sun shine full blast!

Decided to get the glass doors mirror-tinted to cut down the heat and
glare. Still no solution on how to have a security grill....

Idea struck! Told tintfilm installers to cut 1" x 15" strips of 3M matt black
stickers and stick them about 6" apart vertically on the inside of the glass
doors. So that from outside they would look exactly like the doors had a
metal grill inside!

Had my alarm guys add on 2 vibration sensors on the metal frame to
provide the security.

So that's how I did my virtual grill for my glass folding doors....Cheers!

What is the view like from the outside? For security, it's the view of the 'virtual grille' from the outside that matters, right?

For foldable doors, the grilles should also follow i.e. foldable on the opposite side of the track. If the door folds on the inside, the grille should fold on the outside and vice versa.

For aluminium sliding doors, the sliding door and grille come as an integral set which look neater.
