Does Maybank only SMS notification based on spending behaviour because I'm only receiving SMS for certain swipes only?

So far, I only received swipe alert for auto debit for TNB and OTC at TM point. TM point is using MBB terminal.

I didn't receive alerts from Jusco and Tesco because those're my frequently visited places.

Just my hunch. Don't flame me.
*
Bro, if you read first post and my article Fraud Calls and SMS Alert, YES you are right, MBB do not sent out SMS based on default value but on so called spending pattern.

If you had read Human Nature's post, he email to MBB. And thanks to many here who complained, I had no problem getting my SMS default value set to RM0.01 (for all types of transactions) when I call up CS to request for it last week.

Well, I am glad to report once again today I received 2 sms from MBB while pumping petrol for my cars.

I was on the line with Alliance CS and there is a default value of RM500 for Face to Face transaction. I aksed can change, and after putting me on hold me like 10 minutes, she said can, she will fax over form or email.

Swiped once today for RM 700 when changing tyres using MBB2 AMEX.

No SMS received.

But i did received SMS for all my auto-debits like DiGI broadband , DiGi Phone bills,Great Eastern etc.

Bro, MBB don't have a default value but based on other criteria like spending pattern. If you read ben83 post earlier, he charge more than RM10K also no SMS.

So if you want SMS from Maybank, you need to call MBB CS and instruct them to set your default value to what amount you want. For my case, I requested them to set the default value to RM0.01. Actually MBB turned out to be the better bank (thanks to members here complaining), you don't need to fill in any forms like Alliance, HLB and OCBC. Citibank you can do it online or call CS too.

About 2 weeks back I called Alliance as wanted to request change the default amount to RM1. The CS said will fax over a form. So I filled in the form and refaxed back to them. Last week a guy called me and said they can't change it to lower than RM500. If want the amount to increase then can. So I told him BNM requirement is they must send SMS to me and other banks like MBB, OCBC and HLB can change the threshold value. Asked him to fer to his management.

Yesterday I used my Alliance Bank Credit Card for RM80+ face to face transaction and received an SMS smile.gif

My wife just received 2 sms from CIMB Bank informing her that 2 purchases has been made from iTunes US with total amount USD120 using her credit card.
My wife never had any i-device.. let alone having iTunes account. It's clearly a fraud.

The last transaction she made was when she bought a printer at KLCC PC Fair last week. Is it possible that one of the salesperson at the booth involves in this fraud?..

CIMB cust service said they'll investigate the transaction..

see, the SMS Alert thingy is useful. That is why all banks should sent out SMS for all transactions irregardless of the amount.

And for those wth HLB card, here is the form to change the default value:

Not strange ... I'm in the same boat as well.
For some strange reasons, I stop receiving SMS since the last 2 weeks. I'm still receiving MSOS though.
*
I did receive SMS from Maybank when I paid for my air tickets with MBB VI and MBB2 AMEX last week (for 6 separate transactions with 4 different airlines). Also when I pump petrol with MBB 2 AMEX. This week have yet to use my MBB cards but did receive SMS from Alliance twice for two separate transaction amounting to RM100 each minutes apart at the same merchant.

So far I never received any SMS for using my petronas Mbb visa for petrol transaction in petronas

if you really want SMS Alert for all your MBB transactions, you need to request else MBB may not necessary sent out SMS even if you spend more than RM10K in a single receipt.

Just to update, received SMS for my petrol with MBB 2 AMEX today.

Very strange now. All my auto debit won't be receiving any SMS alert for MBB2 AMEX and Visa.
*
Maybe autodebit they only sent out once for the very first time, which makes sense because what is the point of senting out the same SMS every month IF the amount is the same.

why don't they implement sms alerts for debit card transactions... too. I have recently split an insurance payment to a debit and credit card. The alert for cc came 3 minutes after and nothing from the debit issuer. Would have felt much x10 safer if debit transactions come with an alert too.
*
Good point there. Write to BNM.

I sent a secured email to Citibank to request them to lower my credit card sms alert from the current RM499 to RM1 but guess what ? It is Citibank's policy that they only provide sms alert for all transaction of at least RM201    doh.gif
*
Bro, in the first post I have mentioned that Citibank minimum amount for SMS is RM200 and can request by phone or you can do it yourself online.

QUOTE(Denis @ Jun 19 2012, 08:35 AM)
continues from the above....
4). Continued called to MBB. After checking, the cs told me to wait for a moment, She wrote a report instantly to  MBB Information Technology  Department without delay, then she  said that I am going to get the notification after 3 working days later.

After 3 working days, finally I received the notification yesterday saying the my SMS ALERT is successful.

MBB SMS ALert system is the toughest bank I had ever deal regarding the SMS Alert. mad.gif

P/S: As long as you haven't received your SMS acknowledgment that your SMS Alert feature is successful, you will never get the SMS Alert for all transactions (including irregular transactions) even through u had requested for SMS Alert feature to be on and had recorded on their computer system.

One question, will the transactions incurred by the supplementary cards be alerted to the principal card holder's phone call?
As far as I know, for HSBC, yes, the transaction incurred by the supplementary will notify the principal holders.
*
What other bank did you find it easier to set the default value to RM10?

Actually I on the other hand find that MBB is the easiest to set default value to RM1. One don't need to fill in any form (unlike OCBC, HLB and Alliance) but just simply call them once for ALL MBB cards. I call once and that's it.

CIMB, as of today they still refuse to set my default value to below RM500 even tho I have requested it twice over the phone doh.gif

As for supp card, you can instruct the bank to sent the SMS to your phone.

*
Bro, you should call Maybank and ask them to set your default value to RM1 and within 3 days or so you should receive an sms. However, if you have requested for it and did receive the sms, something must be wrong. I have no issue in receiving SMS for any of my transactions with MBB card (last use was last weekend at JJ for less than RM150 with MBB 2 AMEX).

Received my first SMS alert for swipe transaction on my Citibank CC for an amount less than min amount set.

Maybe because I requested for the replacement CC.

Update for UOB Credit Card: We can change the SMS alert transaction limit to RM 1 and above. I have successfully done so and got the SMS for a RM 40 transaction. Just fill in the "SMS Transaction Alert Service Maintenance Form" from UOB website at Useful Information -> Application Form -> Personal Banking. The completed form should be sent to UOB via fax, post or direct hand-in. Take note that the fax number written in the form is outdated. The correct fax number should be 03-26900121, those in doubt may call up UOB to confirm.

Gen-X, please do add this info to UOB Credit Cards thread as well.
*
Sure Bro, thanks for the valuable info. And in respect to the fax number, I just called UOB to reconfirm and you are correct.

Yes, I am able to change it to RM1.

hahaha, If not mistaken you did post sometime back in MBB 2 Thread, informing me that you managed to set the default value for your CIMB card to RM1 and asking me to do the same. But I have to call CIMB to do so. But thanks to you, everyone here at LYN knows we can set CIMB SMS default value to RM1.

Archmage Warlic, for online transactions, most banks if not all including Public Bank has no default value and will sent out sms.

My daughters have Public Bank and Hong Leong Bank Debit cards (obtained years ago when one of them was below 18 and thus I had to sign on the application), everytime they use the cards for online transaction, e.g. USD1, I get a sms.
