I'd say the consideration for phone camera is a priority if and only if the camera on the phone is one's primary camera.
Like me, I have a DSLR. I can afford to have an inferior camera sensor on my phone, because if I want to take serious pictures, I'd use the DSLR. The camera sensor on my phone offers the convenience of taking snapshots. I accept that as a compromise for the Nexus. Convenience > quality (must be acceptable also la).
However, if the camera phone is your primary camera, I don't see why you shouldn't pick based on the sensor, if mobile photography is of top priority. Makes total sense for me.
Conclusion, only seriously consider the camera sensor on a phone if it is your primary camera. When you already own a primary, more purpose-built camera, you'll naturally know how to manipulate the variables to take a nice shot on your phone.

I mean, why ask the guy to get an N8 is camera is a primary concern for a smartphone? Sure the Nexus takes good pictures, but if camera is really a concern to a particular someone, and between the 2 one has a superior camera, then why not go for that.
I don't have a DSLR, but I do have a relatively good digital camera. Yet I don't bring it everywhere. So yeah, you still want decent on the go shots. Not just random shots you post onto FB, but even decent memories you wanna capture in good quality when your camera is not with you.
And I don't know bout you guys, but I don't print pictures that much. Or rather I view them on a large LED monitor alot. So yea, MP does help. Of course sensor > MP in terms of importance, but I don't think the whole talk about MP doesn't matter is right. It does help, in certain situations. Like viewing your pictures on a bigass screen or cropping the part of a picture you want then blowing it up.
At the end of the day, you need to get something that suits your needs right. Everyone has preferences. If you want an Android and at the same time camera is real important, why not the S2.
If you want the latest Android available with all its goodies, latest UI, probably smoothest Android to date, loadsa developer support, first to get next Android update (assuming you stick with one phone that long) etc, go get the Nexus
Personally, I had a choice between the 2. I ended up getting the S2 coz my previous phone was bonkers, and Nexus wasn't out yet. If it were, would have had a harder time choosing. Would have probably ended up with the S2 anyways, but that's just preference
Geez
