I was trying franco kernel only...will multiple time flashing or wiping data harm the phone?
it did not boot so then I put google yagbu rom..again did not boot.

so what are the steps actually....? pls confirm if I did right

Backup followed by option bootloader, then unlock option...then I run CWM recovery stuff from where i installed the .zip of kernel.... I did not rename something ..there was an option for rename file..

is this right...if someone has used gnex toolkit pls letme know do I need to follow all the steps or individual. Just letme know brief steps(order) I will search more on their details.

Added on January 18, 2012, 9:38 amI was thinking to put bigxie rom...so good combination?
also when we need to update the rom released by the developers ...all my data will be gone? how can I restore my data from old rom to new rom?
I have taken backup from gnex tookit..so can I put it back on my phone after I flash new rom?

yes, unlocked bootloader will wipe your device.
all your files saved under internal SD card, will not impact when you flash custom rom. after flash custom rom, not recommended restore back the apps via recovery. the best is, use Titanium backup. after flash the custom rom. use TB restore back App only.
*
so can I use titanium backup to restore from the backup taken by gnex toolkit?
is titanium and nandroid apps?

no way. install TB now before you take next action. backup all your apps by TB first.
*
my fone is currently dead...tried to boot but it is not booting..only google logo+a lock...till morning no progress haha.
So suggest me whether my solution below is fine?
1. Factory setting reset
2. Unroot and lock again ( I guess not required because already reset)
3. Backup restore using Gnex toolkit
4. Start the flashing stuff again after creating Titanium backup
5. Once I m satisfied with my custom rom and kernel -> do Nandroid backup.

question..-> if something goes wrong or want to restore back to my best custom rom and kernel with all apps...can I restore everything from some other rom+kernel to my old backup using nandroid?

maybe for newbie, stay and familiar with stock first. for huge improvement or mod is only happen in custom rom in short term. once you ready, unlock bootloader, flash recovery, nandroid, flash custom rom.
next step, flash any better kernel, flash newer version of radio, mod launcher and so on.. really fun on flashing...  laugh.gif
*
why nandroid? why not titanium?
because we want to restore apps only from backup to custom rom.
can we also do the same from nandroid backup too?

no problem, everyone here willing to help once got free time to lepak here  biggrin.gif
as mentioned here. nandroid is whole OS backup. Titanium Backup not entirely but always recommended app for rooted device. Again, Nandroid format are confirm not compatible with TB.
even other design of Recovery, both nandroid even also not compatible. But so far, for GNex, only CWM are the best.
*
that means backup taken from CWM, Nandroid, TB can be restored using same only.
I took complete backup using CWM gnex toolkit..can I restore apps only from it after custom rom flashing?
also pls look at my previous post....need your suggestions.

wao, nice photo sharing. very nice. thanks for sharing.
which baseband are you using now?
the idea of nandroid is perfect for us when testing new rom. any shit happen, restore back previous good ROM.
if you're ok with new custom rom and want back the apps, always suggest use TB for rooted device.
don't wait, get GNex now. technology never ended.

O/T: now I only know Nexus One/Galaxy Nexus is the only Android phone to have Full Colour Trackball/LED.
bravo Nexus! Nexus phone or Nexus Tablet (in future) are always my first choice now.
*
thanks... I will always take nandroid and TB backup before doing anything smile.gif I will create separate folders
to have different backup types..plenty of space in my hdd hehe..
what's Colour Trackball/LED.?

Added on January 18, 2012, 3:04 pmthere is an auto recovery restore system, so do we need to change something before flashing custom roms?
also how to test whether got root ? for unlock I guess it shows unlocked beneath google logo.
