I would think checking at ABOUT PHONE is a good enough . If your phone calls/SMS n 3G can works proves is a good flash. Why you want to change baseband in first place ?

because after flashing AOKP maguro milestone 2 sometimes my signal suddenly lost, not experienced before on stock rom, i've read somewhere in this forum that provide some link mentioning ICS ver 4.0.3 is compatible with xxkk6 radio, so i search for it in xda and straight away flash it

Some kernels enable you to overclock/underclock and undervolt your CPU so you get better performance and battery life. Also, some allow you to change the colour tone of your screen if you think it is too yellowish.
Good kernel = Good stability + Smooth + Better battery life (about 50% better compared to stock, this is the main reason changing a kernel)
Bad = Sleep of Death, Lag, constant restarting.

use SetCPU for changing cpu frequency. Some ROMS like AOKP/bigxie have built-in setCPU so you can just change in from there. For the Colour tuning, you need to access the system files and change values in it or just purchase franco's app for easy GUI.

im using aokp rom, where to find the built-in set cpu setting, can't find it, mine is AOKP milestone 2

It is advisable to wipe cache partition and dalvik cache even when flash kernel. It only takes a few seconds. No harm doing it. Cleaning these does not do any harm
Flashing other mods not necessary

what is the function of wiping cache and dalvik cache, just want to know, and if flashing numerous zip, need to restart every time flashing or just straight away install from zip after previous flashing without reboot
