Hi all, I'm new here to this forum.

Im currently driving a Red Proton Savvy MT too.

Mileage reaching 170+k km and reaching 5 years.

Just wondering, how often do you guys change your radiator coolant and Fuel filter?

Also, I plan to use Schnell 10w40 engine oil.

any suggestions?

radiator coolant, check the color at the water tank.. if not nice then change..

fuel filter, can check first.. if dirty then change.. every 30,000km if not mistaken..

2nd hand savvy owner up to 6++ year are advice to ready for fuel pump change.. cost rm500++with labour..

me also waiting for that thing to spoil already.. hoping it wont spoil during driving.. the key is not to always leave your car to go low on petrol (amber fuel check light)..

schnell?? dunno that brand.. i only use shell hx7, elf competition, now on first quad litre of liquomoly..

seem i gain another 10kmh extra using liquomoly.. now can easily reach 160kmh.. well some said they can reach 180kmh easily.. well, depend on engine condition probably..

*some said, change to mineral oil to get that higher topspeed figure but remember to change on 3000km interval instead of 7000 of semi syn..

** correct me if i'm wrong here..

You have higher mileage than me lol..our engine is hi-rev type and always drive long distance,...that's why I only used fully synthetic oil 120km/h at 4000 rpm...10k km, twice a year oil change..get it at Tesco - just RM14x and Rm15x..on promotion days can get rebate. Still can touch 160km/h easily

I never had problem with tdc sensor since when i changed ignition coil in rs auto many years ago, they modified tdc sensor for me as well. My car is already 7 years and contemplating to trade in and buy a new car. What is the current market price for savvy manual 2005? The car loan balance around rm12k.

During 7 years period i have changed ignition coil twice, the rocket like sensor, driver side power window switch and driver side seat belt. Other things are normal wear and tear maintenance as in manual booklet.

I checked with ambank system, savvy mt manual 2005 is valued at around 17k. But i think actual market price is much lower than that.

hi there, checking in.

I've been driving this car for four years. No major issue yet. Nearing major service soon (timing belt change, gear oil change). Can recommend any good workshop in Nilai, Sepang, Puchong, Kajang or Bangi?
*
I have done mine at speedmag prima saujana, in fact it is my preferred workshop to service my savvy now , first and foremost because it is near to my house and their pricing is also reasonable.

Hi all,

This is my first post here blink.gif Sorry to be rude, I was going to buy a 2nd hand Savvy soon, but to my surprise

I ONLY SEE NEGATIVITY

Should I or should I not buy blink.gif My financial status is clean, but my purchasing power is just as low as I can afford a used Savvy, that's why I'm still searching around hai and loe.

From what I understand, the ignition coil and powah steering always kacau on MT, otherwise should be normal wear & tear. Also knowing normal maintenance part will cost a bomb because they're imported parts from France! doh.gif Appreciate if there is some old skol sifu I can hook up for a TT(*I belanja) to teach me once and for all. If possible, would gladly like to invite sifu to help me go look see car when I ready to buy 1. The least chance I'll be getting cheat ler.

Thanks and regards

i'm selling my car it is because i'm using amt, if is manual will slightly better, at least you can avoid the gear problem.

Since you heard so many negativity about savvy, then let me tell you some positivity about savvy.

1) handling is good.
2) engine is very reliable (renualt engine perhaps), i said reliable because i like shift gear at 4000-5000rpm, so far no engine problem for this 4 and half years.
3) chassis is very strong, usually a small knock won't cause your car dent compare to other local tin milo productions.
4) for ignition coin and power steering as i know will only faulty due to aging, unless you very unlucky <-- unavoidable.

if you stay near the specialise service centre like renaultech then you won't need to worry about repair cost.
http://www.renautech.com.my/V1/Contact_Us.asp

if you are not and only proton service centre is the nearest to you, good luck! your wallet will dry out.

Thank you for your reply. If ignition coil and power steering problem, is there any aftermarket upgrades we can inherit, so we'll have less trouble? According to your statement, aging should mean wear and tear. My driving style is exactly like those moron like to hog the road, does it mean my ignition coil will last longer?

Thank you again and again. I really start liking the car ALREADY even before I buy it. Just these well known issue bothering me, as a result I wouldn't dare to buy it just yet. Any more assistant would be much appreciated. notworthy.gif

as i heard some owner said before that usually they will buy the part and bring to the service centre, this way will be cheaper compare that you use service centre parts. for aftermarket parts i not so sure about it. Hog on the road doesn't causes ignition coil faulty sweat.gif but still don't treat it like a racing car, else alot of things will have problem later. Normal will driving will do.

As i know almost every productions car have known issue, just that whether can be fixed or not. But at least savvy no need to recall back like toyota or honda.

If you buying a 2nd hand then you better becareful with the car condition before you accept.

Saga Hatchback to be exact nod.gif The otherday I went for test drive, the owner was bringing me out to some place so I can fully try out the car. Along the way, he explained the car is SOOOOOOO DAYME POWDERFUL and the superduper geng cao AMT aka SELESPEED aka Super Touring Car Sequencial GB aka Porsche TipTronic on a shiftstick shocking.gif whilst he was bragging how powderful the car is, suddenly hear clutch spin sound, engine revving speed climbing then the car slowly roll to the roadside. He off engine, trying very hard fiddling his stick up-down-up-down the car just wouldn't move hmm.gif he said small matter, explained something like shuttle fuel doesn't match with the titanium medium, ignition spark couldn't fire up and thruster lose power as a result the space shuttle couldn't teleport anymore... all sorta jargon that I never heard before to confuse me shakehead.gif I quickly get out of the car and ran to the nearest taxi stand. The seller ditch his car and came to me wanted to further poison me to buy his AMT saying he will rectify the "MINOR" issue, once gao dim he will call me, ask me NOT TO WORRY! Price STILL can negotiate UNTIL LET GO! doh.gif

Seriusly, if he not so desperate to sell, I wouldn't do so much research before I buy, probably wait until he rectified jor will buy from him ady sweat.gif Stay away from AMT sweat.gif

Was thinking of AutoMaTick gearbox mar, sumore hear good FC, so mah thinking of get an auto savvy, later can use the cute savvy to con my wifey give back my GaGa to me lor sweat.gif

Now I'm planning for manual Savvy lar, but still heard lotsa negative comment, especially the well known ignition coil & powah steering issue. This 2 alone ady cost a bomb(shd be up to thousand ady). Other than that, changing timing belt will costs RM700!!! That's 3 times belt change cost of my Iswaga sweat.gif

So, I need to find out all the repair possibilities, costing, most efficient magician before I can decide to buy sweat.gif come to think of it, should thank the broken down AMT that I wanted to test drive, otherwise all these question would hit my mind doh.gif

hi.. here's some of my experience on my savvy..

timing belt only cost rm350 (bosch).. this one every 80,000km ~ 100k km.. depend on condition and do u dare to run higher mileage (up to 100k km) on that belt or not..

my car already 7 years old, not yet got problem with power steering switch sensor.. key is make sure turn steering only during engine on, and park straight so that pressure dint spoil the switch during start..
temporary solution is to glue the sensor when it leak, but better change when got budget.. rm250++ if not mistaken..

next the coil.. just search for rm200 JEC replacement coil n plug.. 3rd party.. blue colour or opt for original renault which is separate coil type, both (coil n plug) cost 400++ if not mistaken..

so far so good.. i bought my car on june 2009, already 3 year serving me, 4 year serving previous owner..

some minor wear and tear.. i like to change before spoil so called prevention repair.. already spend near 2k++ for changing things during this 3 years of driving..

plug rm60.. fuel filter rm35.. bearing rm35 back, rm80 front per side.. mounting rm300++, jec coil plug rm200, what else.. owh, still can solve my temperature problem during driving if not switch on aircond.. nevermind cause fuel not that high even on aircond open windows..

just make sure u save up a lil bit on repair when u buy this car from second hand dealer..

*i always drag my car.. so far so good.. alway rev my rpm meter to 6k when i feel so..
**me also read up in savoc.net forum prior buying this car.. been a member for two month before buying it from 2nd hand dealer..
