the rear tires are bound to have a patch which is a bit "flat"

there will still be some resistance due to the rear wheels are stiffer than the front wheels. And that resistance translates to greater friction and therefore the friction generated is wearing out the tire at a faster rate.

I personally experience it before with my father's MPV. I only driven with the handbrakes on about 2-3km so the damage isn't that apparent. But its a stupid mistake, I must say.
