This is why people associate Jailbreaking with piracy Jailbreak discussion, all about Jailbreak v3, READ: ABSOLUTELY NO DISCUSSION ON PIRACY

This morning when I woke up, I checked twitter and found out the JB is out. So I said to myself, wait first till the dev clear out the bugs as usually the first release is full of bugs like Corona first released.
But ..... 5 mins ago, I succumbed and my iP4s is out of it's prison. Mine just took 5 mins and it feels so snappy. Time to clear the old junk from iP4 and start new. The dark side is very strong |

I didn't get any problem. It took me 5 mins to JB from my current phone without restoring first as new phone and didn't have to on VPN. I have an existing VPN set up for my office emails.

QUOTE(Roysmith @ Jan 25 2012, 10:55 AM) Hi, am using Ios 5.0.1. JB with redsnow. Problem is I cant launch bitesms as it would crash everytime i open. Please advice. TQ There might be conflict with other mobile substrate. Try to disable all mobile substrate in sbsettings except for bitesms and turn on 1 by 1 to eliminate the conflicting extension. |

I think what joonwei23 mean/concern is related to SSH. If you don't install SSH or install SSH and change the default password then you are safe. Problem only arises if you install SSH but did not care to change the root/mobile password. People can get into the phone using that 'hole'.

QUOTE(paan_halim @ Jan 26 2012, 11:15 AM) Use either terminal in iphone but I always use terminal in Mac.command: 1. ssh root@phone_ip_address i.e. ssh root@10.228.200.1 2. Enter default password = alpine 3. Once logged in, type passwd 4. It will ask you the new password 5. Once done then logout 6. Do step 1 again but change root to mobile |

QUOTE(QuickFire @ Jan 26 2012, 01:45 PM) Yup ... restoring from backup will restore your settings, pics, contacts, msg etc but not cydia apps. For cydia, look for pkgbackup, that should backup and restore your cydia apps, repo and settings.Added on January 26, 2012, 3:05 pm QUOTE(paan_halim @ Jan 26 2012, 01:57 PM) Use winscp or PuTTY or any ssh/telnet client.Added on January 26, 2012, 3:07 pm QUOTE(Mackiddo @ Jan 26 2012, 02:24 PM) terminal is only for mac. fastest way to do it would be via terminal in iPhone. I wonder how many actually change their root pass or just waiting to be 'rickroll'. I think nowadays not many will install OpenSSH in Cydia since many will use ifunbox. It was famous last time before all this ifunbox, ifile and other easy iphone file manager. The easiest way would be to turn off SSH within sbsettings if they don't know how to change password.This post has been edited by frozzbyte: Jan 26 2012, 03:07 PM |

Aye my mistake ... if from within iphone using terminal
1. Open terminal app 2. You'll be in 'mobile' 3. Change mobile password first with passwd command 4. Done with that, type in su root and put in the default password (alpine) 5. This will bump you to root access 6. run the passwd command again. done |

There's no need for normal user to install mobile terminal just to change the ssh password unless you need to run terminal commands everyday just for the sake of having fun

Because ssh is a service (like an open door to your iphone filesystem). When you install SSH, it will have a default password (alpine). If you are online with wifi and an attacker knows your IP address, he can log in to your phone and steal data and do nasty stuff. So changing the default SSH password is like changing the lock on your door. To be extra safe, turn off the SSH service in sbsettings if you don't use it.
Extra info - SSH do not use extra battery power nor memory when idle. |

Do you have sbsettings installed? if yes then find the ssh toggle in sbsettings setting page.

QUOTE(ang3llonz @ Jan 29 2012, 04:45 PM) Is it all d paid apps must pay only can use? Or we can use for free? Any alternative solution? Sorry for noob question. Still a newbie here.. It is a paid app for a reason but there are some that offer a trial period before you pay. Paying for those apps are not a bad thing you know, it encourage the developers to make more good apps. If we keep on stealing from them, do you think they will develop more apps for us?As most people would say, if you can spend thousands on a phone, RM3 - RM30 wont hurt the wallet right? |

Sure it's a known bug?After i jailbroken my iPhone4s, it happens so frequent, like 4, 5 times a day. Before this it only happened once in 1 week. I am restoring. Added on January 30, 2012, 12:10 pm QUOTE(ichigo_rahman @ Jan 30 2012, 12:00 PM) if contract iphone 4s with telco (which suppose to mean locked sim) can it be jail broken? Contract iPhone with telco in Malaysia does not mean locked sim. All phones sold in Malaysia are officially unlocked as in if you buy from Maxis, you still can use sim card from Digi or Celcom.do i have to make it unlock sim first? or i still can maintain my lock sim to JB? QUOTE(ichigo_rahman @ Feb 2 2012, 01:33 PM) SHSH is like a security certificate for your device and it's unique. You can't share your SHSH with others as it is tied to your UDID (Unique Device Identifier). Everytime you restore your phone, itunes will fetch this 'security cert' to sign your firmware saying it's ok to restore the phone. When Apple release a new firmware, let say 5.1 after this, they will stop signing the 5.0.1 firmware. This is where you SHSH comes in if you want to restore back to 5.0.1 instead of 5.1. If you don't have the 5.0.1 SHSH saved in Cydia or TinyUmbrella, then you are out of luck to restore back to 5.0.1. To put this in a scenario, Apple release firmware 5.1 and it is not jailbreakeable (yet) and only can be jailbreak in 5.0.1, but you 'accidentally' upgrade to 5.1 and loosing the jailbreak (I dunno how one can 'accidentally' upgrade). To have a working jailbreak again means you need to downgrade back to 5.0.1. Since Apple already stop signing 5.0.1, you will get an error everytime you want to restore to a firmware less than 5.1. SHSH bypass this by signing the 5.0.1 firmware so you can downgrade back without any error.Hope that explain what SHSH is about. |

@teaoice
Phone crash go to safe mode means some tweak that you install is causing it. Mostly involving mobile substrate. |
