You have a baseband that supposedly can be unlock with Gevey Sim Ultra if you preserve the baseband during the upgrade to 5.0.1

The steps to do it is complicated but you can do it via sn0wbreeze 2.9.1 via Expert Mode.

Don't take out the simcard. That is not necessary. The jailbreak process is quite fast within 3-5 minutes especially if you backup and restore your iPhone before applying the jailbreak.

Hey guys got a simple question here. I've googled but I need some confirmation.

I have a jailbroken iPhone 4 with iOS 5.0.1. If something wrong happens to my phone and I want to reset and restore it, can I restore it to the factory settings using iTunes, and then restore from a previous backup later? I want to keep all my settings and cydia apps with all the apps settings and data intact.

Guys.. im a super noob, just got my Iphone 4s previously never own an iphone before. So im kinda confused here, it says better to do backup before you do the jailbreak.
So the steps is like this:
1)Backup your phone using Itunes
2)Restore your phone to factory settings
3)Do the jailbreak
4)Once jailbreak is completed, restore from your last backup.

So my question is, everytime my phone connected to my computer, the system will auto backup/sync my phone into my computer. Let say if i already done my backup, then restore my phone to factory settings, i am afraid that the Itune will auto sync/backup the factory settings and overwrites my previous backup since as far as im concerned only 1 backup is available to choose(last backup). So im afraid when im gonna restore my iphone after done with the jailbreaking, it gonna picks the last backup which contains the factory settings instead.

Not sure you guys can understand my concern or not.

i've done JB for my iphone 4s, my fren, and also my housemate.
3 times JB, none of it got issue.
for me, backup is just for your secure step, JUST IN CASE IF your JB is not success, u still have other option to restore.
take the simple one:
1. backup your iphone using itune
2. JB
3. if everything is ok, continue use your iphone.

its not that complicated isnt it?

Guys, is it true after you jb, your phone will be prone to viruses or something like that.
meaning it's not safe to surf on safari for internet banking stuff.
from what I heard, if you didn't jb, it is safe, but after jb-ing, it will be very vulnerable.
hope to hear some feedback on this.
thanks smile.gif

You can always tell iTunes not to auto sync/backup. Just go to iTunes preferences and under the Devices Tab, untick the box that says "automatically sync iPhone iPad iPod" etc.

By the way, if you backup and then restore your iPhone, a copy of the backup prior to the restore will be saved in the computer and will not be overwritten. iTunes will create another backup file post restore.

Nonsense. Just make sure you download tweaks from trusted repo. If you download all those pirated tweaks, then I don't know. So don't download those tweaks.

I think what joonwei23 mean/concern is related to SSH. If you don't install SSH or install SSH and change the default password then you are safe. Problem only arises if you install SSH but did not care to change the root/mobile password. People can get into the phone using that 'hole'.
