If your wife 4.1 already jailbreak, Cydia maybe already safe your shsh.. Check with tiny umbrella, choose advanced tab and mark on get shsh from cydia..after that click save shsh button.. If cydia already save your shsh proceed with ifaith.. Google your self and goodluck
Yes, my wife's 4.1 already jailbroken previously but unfortunately, Cydia only managed to saved SHSH till 4.3.5 & not 5.0.1 as shown on top its bar.

Sigh..... I guess I gotta wait for the untethered for iOS 5.1 then. Thanks for your reply bro! Appreciate it a lot! smile.gif rclxms.gif

Download Tinyumbrella and connect your wife's iPhone 4 and press saved SHSH. It will get the 5.1 SHSH from apple. The dev team is working on 5.1 jailbreak so better get the SHSH for 5.1 now just in case apple comes up with 5.1.1 to throw the jailbreakers some problems.

No you do not need to upgrade to 5.1 to get the SHSH.

apple apps will be stored, but cydia apps/ tweaks will be removed.

that's why you shout backup cydia stuffs with xbackup, pkgbackup or Aptbackup

personally i haven't restore cydia stuffs before ... but, i m sure it's going to be very soon once iOS5.1 is jbroken

why do you want to go to ios5.1 anyway? there are no difference between the 2, apple released it for the new ipad and to patch up the JB hole mah...

but latest news is that ipad3 on ios5.1 is already jailbreak-able by one of the developers. @1on1c i think... he also did the ipad2 JB as well.

Guys, currently on JB OS 5.0.1. Never tried syncing my phone ever since I JB it. My question is if I sync it with my iTunes now as I need to update my playlist, will it disturb my Cydia downloaded apps?

Cause syncing with iTunes will automatically backup all my apps etc. Afraid that it will disturb my Cydia apps.

Thanks a lot! So in short syncing with my iTunes will only back up all my 'App Store' apps?

Btw what if when there is a new major update (ie: iOS6). As I know, Cydia apps can be backup as well. But this backup is still in the phone right? Unlike other apps is back up in the iTunes.

Guys, just an update on my situation, i hope some of the newbies might be able to gain something from what i did over the weekend.

The iphone4 is currently detecting network! - however i think the signal strength is quite weak, it would disconnect and reconnect at times, but well, isnt that the iphone4's commonly known problem? anyway as long as it is no longer under "no service" status, i consider my job done. Here's the chronology of what i did :

Finally i can close case, but thru this, i learnt quite some thing, and that restore/update/JB an iphone and ipad are different in some ways. i still prefer working on ipad. very easy, lol.

i have the same unanswered question, will cydia apps be backup as well ?

from what I know apps like xbackup, aptbackup and pkgbackup will save a list in your iphone which could (rumor said) enable itune to store them (all of your cydia apps/ tweaks and settings) to computer when syncing.

now, the problem is how could I verify that those cydia stuffs have been stored in the computer ?

for windows 7, itune backup directory is located at C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup , but if you open it , you will get a long list of unknown files with very long name, which you could never understand what type of files are those.

i never do cydia restore before , I am not sure, which one (xbackup, aptbackup or pkgbackup) will work.

pkgbackup is very recommended for cydia apps.

no, itunes will not backup your cydia (illegal) apps it will delete it during your syncing restore process.

in such case, where does pkgbackup save cydia apps ? To computer ( which directory) or iphone (which directory)

once i do backup with pkgbackup, I could find a backup list in contacts. It is only a list but not backup files.

There is a prompt command informs me to sync with itune. I think, with the backup list, itune will store cydia apps to computer while syncing.

If no, where is cydia backup files are saved ?

pkgbackup only backup the list of Cydia apps/tweaks installed and repos. Those list can be exported to dropbox/sugarsync etc, saved in adressbook and so on. The actual apps/tweaks won't be backed up.

How it works:

1. Aptbackup backup the list of apps/tweaks and repos
2. You chose where to put the list
3. Upgrade or restore the phone
4. Jailbreak and install Cydia
5. Install Aptbackup
6. Restore the list
7. Aptbackup will reinstall back all the apps/tweaks thats on the list
