No. iPhone 4s can only be jailbroken on 5.0.1

Then follow the first post with regards to downgrading (I know it's counter intuitive but downgrading/restoring/upgrading to a firmware that Apple no longer signs follows the same route).

I am not sure if Cydia saves the APTicket (unlike TinyUmbrella and iFaith) so I give it a 40-60 chance that it will work (I don't think it will work ..)

There is always the tethered jailbreak option if anything goes wrong with the process you're doing.

thax for advise, may i know how to reset to factory setting mode once already jail break?

Almost all jailbreakers avoid this option as there has been many reports that this will brick the iPhone (it will be stucked in the Infinite Apple Boot Logo Loop) which cause you to end up restoring the iPhone (which basically means you have to upgrade the firmware to get it to work again). @figure8 has mentioned however that he managed to erase all content and reset to factory settings before on a jailbroken iPhone on 5.0.1 but I personally have not tried (too risky for my 4s as I have no downgrade path).

What happens when you jailbreak is that the jailbreak program (absinthe/redsn0w) moves the system files around to allow the iPhone to be jailbroken and when you press the erase all content and reset the settings, the iPhone is confused when it cannot find the files that it expects to be where it is supposed to be, this is why the iPhone goes into the infinite boot loop.

If you iPhone is working as normal, I would not touch the Erase all content etc etc as I personally think that it is too risky. You can always delete the apps manually (faster via iTunes as you can just deselect the apps in iTunes and sync and do a reset network settings to remove all the wifi and email passwords

Better yet, if you have an opportunity (whenever a jailbreak for the latest firmware is out), save a fresh iPhone backup (with nothing in it) and restore that backup whenever you need to wipe the iPhone. I always create an empty backup for that particular purpose. How do you do that? Please do this when a new jailbreak for the latest firmware is out .... DO NOT DO THIS NOW. (there, let's get the disclaimer out of the way

1. Wipe your iPhone with the latest firmware
2. Set it as new iPhone and name it (Fresh 5.1/5.2/5.3 or whatever .. iPhone Firmware)
3. Backup the iPhone
4. Wipe the iPhone again and restore your old backup, then jailbreak or whatever

Whenever you need to wipe the iPhone, just restore to the backup called "Fresh 5.1/5.2/5.3 firmware iPhone" and the iPhone will be restored to an empty iPhone.

just update to ios 5.1 now waiting for jail breaaaaaaaaaaakkkk!!

had been trying to restore from 4.3.3 to 5.0.1 whole day but no luck ..

my cydia on top written i got SHSH 5.0.1

but still i get all these error when trying to restore ..

i think i got no choice but stick with 4.3.3 zzzzzzzzzzzzz

ps: i never had 5.0.1 but cydia stated i did have the SHSH .. so im not sure if it will works.
my highest ios is 4.3.3 ,, now i want 5.0.1 azzzzz

I don't think it will work as Cydia may have your 5.0.1 SHSH but I don't believe it saves the APTickets which is required for you to build the custom firmware either via iFaith or redsn0w. You cannot simply try to upgrade to 5.0.1, it has to be via custom firmware.

yea i used ifaith .. Finally im on 5.0.1 .. now have to jailbreak and then restore backup ..

For iOS 5.0.1, you need to use redsn0w for the iPhone 4.

When untethered jb iOS5.1 for ip4 will be released ? any latest news ?

It's only been 5 days since iOS5.1 is released, how long did it take from 4.33 to 5.0.1 to come out? Or from a tethered JB on 5.0.1 to Corona exploit? More than a couple of months I think (iOS5 was released on October 12 2011 and the Untether came out on 27th December 2011), that's 2.5 months. As for the A5 device, the jailbreak gap from 4.3.3 to 5.0.1 was close to 7 months.

5.1 is brand new..n i don't think it'll come out anytime soon..5.1 for A4 devices only have a tethered jb for now..last i heard,pod2g (mastermind in 5.0.1 untethered for all idevices) tweeted he will actively looking for vulnerabilities on ios 5.1 for an untethered jb..n that's the initial stage..could be another 4-6 months before it releases to public

I see .. is ok. I m satisfied with iOS5.0.1 , it's good in my ip4.

I can wait for few more months and I believe at that time, ip5 is about to released. Soon after that, no more firmware for old ip.

so lucky that I haven't upgrade, so I enjoy using jb version. ehehe ~~
