hi A1000 owners/future owners,

since the original thread is aready broken now Im starting a new thread this new cute babe.....FYI i've got my A1000 last 2th September 2005......migrating from my old Nokia 8210 to my current Moto A1000 was a big step.....Its been my organizer, my camera(although I admit now so satisfied with the Q) my everything.....but sadly, i've yet to install any firmware etc.....So, lets share and discuss the PRO n CONS and how to upgrade, maximize the utilities of this powerful phone........



PROs
1) went comersial in medias......eg:hari raya/depaveli commersial breaks
2) cool, smart design.....
3) stylus concept...can even use ur fingers(advisable put screen protector 1st, even I use SE since A1000 screen protector was not availble at that moment)
4) good quality sound althought a little bit low in volume
5) Compatible with JeMobile, java application etc
6) .......................................


so I'd start with the CONS that I've discovered so far -->
1) Backup takes nearly 1hour
2) video quality low, and video recording sound too slow
3) viewing/opening pictures galleries takes time/lagging
4) doestnt use windows mobile intead uses Symbian OS(not sure wheather this is a PRO or CON..)
5)............................

u guys can add and I'll fill the blanks.....we also can discuss problems encountered...

this is a good phone i can say... if looking for a audio convertor tats 2.5mm to 3.5 mm pm me.. im doing a bulk... advertise a little ar...

i dunno about u guys, my phone seems to take forever to turn on, it's like stuck on the main page where u see the motorola logo and it hangs there for like few minutes?? does this happens to you guys?

sometimes it restart itself..

i think its normal to be like tat... my e398 and e1000 oso same... the hellomoto looks like stuck there for long time... then it enters the phone...

i'm using this phone too, i doesnt encounter slow sleep in backing up the phone...i took approximately 15 minutes using bluetooth, internal memory and 64mb external memory almost full.

cons:
1.slow startup time
2.slow response
3.shitty camera quality
4.soft volume
5.hard to find screen protector
6.loose usb and charger connector
7.joystick too small n hard to control
8.Cannot install software in external memory

pros:
1.good battery life
2.solid n nice design
3. A lot symbian software avaliable
4. good bluetooth connectivity
5. great vibration
6. customizable interface

so far that's all i can think of. havent try 3G b4 on this phone but i think it is definitely not worth the current market price of around 2.5k++

backup shouldn't be so long.. if u have memory card, i think it will back up it too... so just removed your memory card b4 u doing the backup...

if u have encountered slow startup time, u can change the system file on your phone memory.. then it will be faster.. but i forgot how to do that.. agreed that bluetooth connectivity is good, can listen MP3 via bluetooth headset as well (this apply to E1000 too).. too bad that can't vibrate and ring together.. have to buy the software..
old batch doesn't not support chinese, but now the new set has it and can display and write as well but the english dont have word completion anymore..

6.loose usb and charger connector

i think this applies to most motorola handphones... my e398 got this prob oso... cable oso loose

that's why now the new models all are on EMU charger.. (mini usb type).. so that when u plug ur phone to laptop, it will charge the phone too...

My fren who is using A1000 told me that he found a software which enables him to read n write chinese character..no need upgrade firmware...but because i dun read n write chinese...i din bother bout that...

yeah agree...cant vibrate n ring at same time...really turn me off..

what software use to read and write chinese? can let us know the name?

my e1000 takes 7-8 secs to start up

hmm.....my motorola charger's cable not loose 1....i like da nice 'click' sound when u plug in da charger to ur phone

good that he have the software.. but i thought all this will have trial period unless u buy it?

u can refer to babyk for firmware i think... flash oso babyk can do it...

u can download it from net and do it yourself.. so its free.. u need to download the flex file and RSD lite.. i can check the link for u.. btw, my flex is REL_51.92.24C

i still prefer the new EMU(mini usb) type... solid and can charge via laptop or PC..

different.. cable that not mini usb type will not charge the phone when u plug into laptop or PC..

actually started from v3 onwards then onli then new v360

after usually the v series will spot emu connector but moto decided that since the old snappy connector has probs they decided 2 revert 2 emu connector startin from v360 onwards from adapted by v3 previously

yeah A1000 can watch full screen. And it was rated one of the best phones to watch tv as welk!

if u dropped it la! i dropped mine last month on the floor, one side of the screen got fuzzy, got it fixed and its back to normal!

Eeeer what happen to the other thread? Long time didn't post here already. Anyway, thanks for opening it back this thread. Just to let everyone know....I just got my MicroSD/Transflash memory card 512mb...cos me 36pound plus p+p around RM244 bought it thru e-bay (uk). MicroSD is a newest card much higher speed format than Transflash which will going to be replace by MicroSD.

For those who want to know more about this phone let me explain some to you.
- very nice phone
- can watch movie (but at least have a 512mb for full movie 1GB coming out soon next year 2006)
- cannot vibrate no fear use Vibor (I have it with **** pm me if you want lol)
- can use it as GPS try it before very slow...3G also use oredi not bad for video call...
- can surf Internet but for me too bad was block by my service provider 3 network and also kena locked the sim card. Only can use 3 network.
- will try to unlock it but still no one can do it cos it is a newbootloader.
- slow boot up try flash the firmware with generic firmware that is 51.92.08 boot up much faster. but i haven't try it yet...



Ok update later....

Oh yeah guys do you think this A1k can put sim card (Digi) in it cos it only accept USIM. Am I right? Or maybe my stupid provider locked my phone that's why I cannot use other sim card. Damn...

hello babyk i don't think you can help me about that. My firmware is 51.86.14 with new bootloader unless u r elite lol....Ppl here still cannot do the job yet. If you really can then I will contact you once I back to M'sia.

Oops babyk i think you misunderstood me. Probably it is my broken English. I know what you mean. I know that firmware does not determine the bootloader.

I mean in UK there is a new bootloader which is 01.02.11 with the 51.86.14 firmware in it which it is still no one can unlock the phone. Even you change the firmware the phone won't unlock too.

Since you said that you can unlock Moto A1k, so I think you probably cannot unlock this bootloader just my 2cents thought. If you can, then you r my man.

I had try many places but no avail. The smart-clip cannot do the job, even the Victor GSM (new version) said it can but I try it also cannot. Too bad

Hey guys....just finished testing my new 512 microSD memory card wow not bad. Now my memory full of MP3 songs, games and applications haha...for games and applications you need "nopEX" to install all the stuff to external memory. But not all work on external memory.

Here are the applications and games work on ext. memory which I had tested:

Yes A1k can fax and receive fax, but it depend on your service provider. For my case, 3 provide a fax and video number for me to use. I hardly use it. You can receive fax thru the service provider given u an email. Like 3 gave email for me...I can check, send and receive email, and fax too..Software...i'm not sure...try Mobile Fax but I don't have the software...cos I do no need to use it for as the service provider provided it for us.

maxis do have the mobile fax service.. if i apply it, i can fax a document to my office fax machine and it will print out rite? is this what u talking about?

is it maxis have the mobile fax service? i not sure abt maxis...i think it is not work like that...if someone fax something to you, you will receive the fax document from your service provider email. Then from there you want to print or read from there.....

Resco Photo Viewer: (still okay) , a photo album faster then the default one....u guys khow laa with 512 my pic gallery takes ages to view

Vibor : (trial also expired) - a software to give vibrate + sound...also enables the
upper right button(the game button) as a silent/vibrate/virate+audio/audio function instead of having to press the alert mode.....

Wow, last few days I tested the Smartcom GPS software on my A1000 and it work greatly. I put some London map and it work perfectly, it just that the internal GPS is a bit slow to catch up the signal. Some more it is free to use on the GPS signal. But the Smartcom GPS software only in trial version too bad! but there is other software called MapView GPS. Gonna try it soon...Haha...

Look like these Moto A1k not much people use in M'sia and talk about it....Slowly it will be closed.......

Indeed it is affected. Because it use the speaker as a vibrater. Try not to repeat the counter so many times like I put it 2 times. Don't ask me more about it...you have to ask the creator. I'm not. But don't let s/he know abt the *** otherwise s/he will very upset.

It's the loose connection problem (common and irritating). Just reinsert your phone connector, for a few more times. No obvious solution.

Reboot your phone if stucked with too many error about usb connection, or just wait. it will go off.

I have this problem, my phone gsm at times hang.. means nobody can call in, and i can't call out. but i still can use the phone to do anything else than gsm. worse still, the gsm indicator is shown on like normal... means i only know when i test (like retrieve credit balance etc.) it... and often i forget to test often.

yes.. upgraded from moto service centre..
can read and input chines words..by writing or pinyin...
but, once u upgraded to this version, your english word completion will no longer available..

my officemate said that the firmware can be upgraded for free at the moto service centre(next to the IMBI monorail station) but the CONS is u have to leave it for 1day there

Hahaha...Long time didn't drop by here already. Yes sonyclie77, either from email or through voicemail. Not really use it. 3UK provided that kind of services.

Firmware upgrade. Aiya, you can do it yourself. But, of course you have to know how to do it and must be careful too, if not your MotoA1k will fry haha. Just kidding. My previously firmware is 51.86.14 which is 3 branded. I flashed it with 51.86.14 to 51.95.00 Hybrid and it worked nicely. Some more it is generic firmware so I no longer stick to the stupid 3UK service.

Want to flash your firmware, go to Symbian Info Network.



Unfortunately, my MotoA1k still sim locked by 3UK. Still no one can do it at the moment, because of the new bootloader. Sigh....I'm coming back to Malaysia soon, but still can't find anyone here in UK to unlock it. Anyone, in Malaysia can do it? Can anyone tell me? Probably, once I go back to Malaysia will go to Sungai Wang to check it out. Fingers Crossed.

Hmmmm ,what changes are there in 51.95.00 hybrid? Mine currently 51.92.24C..
And do you know if there is a default code for master clear/ reset ie the secutity code?
