Yes it's clearly stated there. My point is why bother with a high bandwith package with a low quota and a low price, without offering a price for both high bandwith and a higher useage quota. It's a stupid business decision.

Bro, diff people has diff needs... they want good latency and fat pipe but they don't do heavy downloads?

you will regret the speed test and the actuall download very different! im the new member but very poor service now moving to MAXIS!

Before people labelling you as Maxis agent, you have any evidence to back your sayings? Did you investigate whether your fiber optic is the one causing problems?

i doubt his claims too as it's from a 1-day-old account laugh.gif
btw, wanna ask, how's da performance with gaming?
does it provide constant speed?
last time i subscribe to PenangFon and although it's fast (2Mbps) but it's nt constant...
meaning it's good for downloading but nt good for gaming since it lags once in a while sad.gif

Let me recall my very first experience playing Counter Strike Source using TIME.

First 15 min, I see fluctuation on my ping. Sometimes it reaches 300 ms blink.gif
I am not sure whether it is my wife started to watch PPS on her ipad during that time. But after that, I see a consistent 15 ms latency throughout the game.

Again, the CS server I connected to is located in Singapore.

wow,I like the latency.Using Unifi VIP20,but the latency to SG and KR are at least 2 times worse than TIME.Sadly TIME has no coverage in my area.
*
Depends on your needs... sometimes the local server's latency is worse than SG one sweat.gif
This is about each ISP has different routing sweat.gif

Given SG is the South East Asia's main data center hub, many CDN providers are there. In my opinion, it is better to have better routing to and fro SG brows.gif

Unifi VIP20,I don't think the results are much better than TIME. cry.gif

Generally, it would be better for us to have content stored adjacent to our area, e.g. SG, Vietnam or Japan.

I have no qualms in playing back 1080P PSY Gangnam Style, Girl Generation videos but some privately uploaded HD videos get stuttering. All of this because Youtube will copy hot videos and store as local content. laugh.gif

Meanwhile, the torrent speed is good so far brows.gif

To whom it may concern,
My contract with TM Unifi will be ending next month. And though of move over to Time, what is your opinion.
Is it the right move?
How is the charges for the telephone? What number does it comes?
*
If you compare bandwidth/price ratio, TIME offer better deal.

Phone call charges, check www.time.net.my, it is more expensive per se.

Hi, very interested in upgrading from current Unifi 5mbps to TIME

My primary concern is the ping (for playing online games), is the ping as low as Unifi?

Anyone on TIME tried Dota 2 and is it as smooth as Unifi (on Asia server)?

Thanks!
*
it was my concern too before applying Astro Beyond IPTV package. However the good thing is the latency is low due to fiber connection. Especially to SG servers, the ping are low.

Bro jjj2,

I'd to add some further knowledge for those who are interested, the modern L2 switches which ISPs used for servicing high speed broadband today installed at apartment floors are actually switches with built in GPON/EPON ONUs for WAN access.

By terminating the ONU with an integrated L2 switch, the ISP saves the cost of having to install a ONU in every subscriber's home and that's substantial cost savings. Apart from that, having an active switch serving like 8 customers per floor with a single ONU termination results in further power consumption savings as well. In fact, subscribers can save on providing an extra power socket for an ONU, with the centralized active switch taking care of that with power provided by building management.

With this, copper cabling can be shortened to very short lengths till the termination point of each home unit.

China ISPs are implementing this cost effective FTTB method in most modern apartments and they use the GPON/EPON as backhaul feeding L2 switches/VDSL2 switches than they do for FTTP(user premise termination).

Also the biggest advantage to passive networks has always been its power saving advantage that puts away the need for active ports but with Google's latest Fibre pilot project in Kansas City, it is known now that Point to Point(PtP) networks can still be achieved through modern WDM techniques.
Meaning WDM Passive optical networks can have the best of both worlds by having the PON power savings advantage and also at the same time enjoy the benefits of dedicated PtP  speeds.

The current ODN architecture which most ISPs build today including Time and Singaporean ones are already considered dated. The Google model, have dedicated PtP fibre which runs all the way from the exchange to every home. WDM splitters are installed just next to the OLT.
*
1 thing to be sure: the ODN architecture allows streaming of media without occupying user subscribing bandwidth. They divided multicast and your internet connection into different VLAN. I can assure you the Google TV box is using part of 1Gbps bandwidth.

Cheers

I am from Penang, what area of server you are referring to?

Singapore servers get good ping than TMnet while US/EU may differ.

I hope the ping is about 20-50ms for SG servers. I don't usually play US servers, but Maxis is horrible. I can't play SEA SC2 because my ping in always above 100ms.
*
I always play CS, CS:Source and CS:GO at SG servers. The ping time is good.

I will show you with screenshot tonight.

Average latency is 250ms. Speed? Hard to tell you but I can tell you pretty good like tmnet.

Thanks, I read somewhere ( I believe on this forum ) that Time's routing causes significant bandwith loss to USA compared to TM's routing. But for the life of me I can't seem to find that post anymore.
*
Yes it depends the routing anyway. I can give you a bad experience:
Download speed from my US VPS is faster on TMnet than Time.

I don't care actually because there is always alternative solution which is free. cool2.gif

Ah ha. I signed a contract for the 24 mbps, and I got annoyed they then started offering Maxis broadband 30 mbps, at 50 dollars cheaper a month. And STILL no price adjustment on the Time side.

WTF tongue.gif

I don't think Maxis offer Astro + Fiber service in Penang yet. Only starting in Feb 2013 onwards in KL.

wonderful, thanks

I will have to break contract with Maxis soon for their incompetency to even manage network latency

averages on (G)arena were 70+ms at the lowest, never below 50

when they decide to blow up, will go up to 100+, totally unacceptable for fiber optic.

how could they screw up this badly...
*
Maxis fiber has been notorious on its traffic routing to SG especially for home users. Many complaints latencies exceed 100ms depends on your luck.

Dear bro
Have time fibre service  in your house already back in normal , currently most of my customers in Bayan Lepas (in sungai ara and relau in specific) do not encounter service interuption at the moment .
*
Yes, it was restored around 3am morning. The interesting is the block next to my apartment was OK. But my friend in Relau had the same problem as mine.
