@4th alphabet
from your ping plotter stats, it is clearly evident time has better latency over unifi as for download speeds, it is recommended to download using multiple connections instead of one. below are my results for downloading http://archive.org/download/IS2013-04-20.m....20track05.flac where you had 320KB/s while i had over 3MB/s (3000KB/s) ![]() p/s: don't expect good download speeds over wi-fi tl ; dr = download using a download manager. i'd recommend jdownloader. |

QUOTE(4th alphabet @ Sep 20 2013, 11:59 PM) thanks for the reply ezinger. appreciate your feedback. just because a different isp gets better download speeds from some random server doesn't mean it is better. there are many factors you need to take into account. for one, the routing and uplink providers. yes, the ping results for Time is super low on my connection. my speedtest.net results for local server is 0ms! very impressive. however, my concern is more to do with the download speed i'm getting. i understand that parallel downloads or multiple connections using a download manager will get me maximum speed in total. but still, there is clearly a difference between Unifi being able to max out on a single download connection compared to Time which is pretty poor on a single connection. also, the Time Fibre ping plotter results for two of the download servers above show packet loss occurring. not a good sign either. i assume your download results from the archive.org server is with multiple connections using a download manager. did you try downloading through your web browser with just a single connection? i just want to know if the results i got is "normal" for Time or if it is just my line/area. if you want to test download speeds, download something common like drivers and programs from microsoft. not some obscure file from a small scale web server. better yet, stream a 1080p youtube video. |

![]() this is on a single connection speed test to the US. archive.org is small scale based on it's function as a web site. it does not have the capital to afford high quality uplink providers. when service providers route different to a file server, download speeds varies based on the uplink provider. bandwidth isn't cheap and there are many different qualities when it comes to bandwidth. let me make try to make it simple as i can for everyone to understand. fileserver1 buys bandwidth from company1 unifi buys bandwidth from company2 which has good peering with company1 Time buys bandwidth from company3 which has limited peering with company1 and company2 company2 peers at 50gigabit with company1 company3 peers at 10gigabit with company2 = a portion of the bandwidth with company1 will be shared with company3 hence, my definition of small scale web servers are those that can't afford to cache their files based on the location of the request. this is where CDN comes into the picture (content delivery network). p/s: archive.org is a non profit org that is funded by donations from other orgs. |

I've contacted TIME and sent them the change of service form but they have not gotten back to me for a week. I'm moving out from my apartment and I will not have access to my old apartment soon. Thanks guys |
