QUOTE(chew3344 @ Jan 13 2012, 10:55 PM) If freshman 2k+ it is ok Hi Chew. May I ask you, what is the real thought and purpose to choose Physiotherapy as your career? There are various types of Physiotherapy can be. If you like personal coaching as personal trainer with patience and caring.. if you intend to be specialist neurological physiotherapists that you can help many people overcome their difficulties such as hand, arm function, leg & foot function, walking, trips/fall, spasticity, spasm, pain, etc. It is very important to identify whether you have the interest and passion to do this. Most successful people are so successful, one of the key is they are passion in doing what they love. I meet other people in coaching line such as fitness coach, health coach, financial coach, etc.. and they really love to do this. These line really meeting lots of people and requires many passion and love for it. |

Be really sure to check on the job market out there before stepping in. I have got lots of friends who are graduates with degree in physiotherapy and yet cant find a suitable job...Look at the number of colleges coming up with the same course, it's like mushrooms growing everywhere...limited vacancy, too many grads...
do check properly first, |

For job opportunity, it is depend on the work place u locate. M'sia may seems less job opportunity for physiotherapy but other countries looking the talent in this fielddo check properly first, |

Sometimes you will not be able to land yourself a job with decent salary, just see it as a learning opportunity, get the experiences and open your own clinic in the future

Well, for those who were wondering, i left the field about a year ago. To be honest, the salary for fresh grads is really low, like 2k low for a degree holder. Even for renowned hospitals in private sectors, the salary is just , dissapointing. Some senior physios just said to my ex colleague : "if you are not happy with your salary and hours, you can just leave, there are tons of freshy that will take it up".
Career progression, increment, employee benefits is just lackluster. Another issue, SENIORITY. Most seniors will insists on their own ways and would dismiss any new ideas immediately. Therefore i made a risky decision, i jumped into other industry. However, this is just me, i am just not resilient enough to hold on to this field. Cheers! |

It is quite sad to see this happening to grads in the healthcare industry, but true nonetheless. Supply has overtaken demand, so unless you are exceptionally wonderful/genius at what you do, you are quite dispensable.Career progression, increment, employee benefits is just lackluster. Would you say the "seniority" issue happens almost everywhere, or perhaps your company/hospital/establishment is an isolated case? Which industry did you jump into, if you don't mind me asking? How well has your degree/previous field prepared you for this jump? |

I think it also depends on the company that you join. One of my friend is enjoying I think around RM4k+ but she has been in the line for approximately 4-5 years. Career progression, increment, employee benefits is just lackluster. Another issue, SENIORITY. Most seniors will insists on their own ways and would dismiss any new ideas immediately. Anyway if you're not happy, a change is good. All the best in your future career progression. |

Which industry did you jump into, if you don't mind me asking? How well has your degree/previous field prepared you for this jump? From my personal experience, it happens pretty much everywhere, however i do feel that it is more common in hospital settings (govt & private). However, there are always helpful and open seniors that are open for ideas to improve on the treatment method. I made the jump into insurance industry, underwriter to be exact. Healthcare related knowledge did help me alot on this new job, so in some way i am pretty happy that not everything Is in vain |
