Just finished building my VLB, any other Lunch Box owners in Malaysia?

It's been on my wishlist for ages.

Had a Tamiya Astute second hand when I was a teenager, glad to finally be able to afford this fun machine.

Got plenty of mods in mind wink.gif

Woah!  thumbup.gif  nice Lunchbox bro! nice to see another old skool Tamiya fans here.  icon_rolleyes.gif  I also planning to get a LunchBox too but first i need to get some Tamiya buggy first.
But its closest cousin the Wild Willy was my first love. Btw Astute is a gold!

Wow nice collection, WW and Monster Beetle are kinda similar to Lunch Box, crazy fun wheelie machines haha.

Great painting on the WW!

I'm not sure what I'll get next, probably something more serious like a Kyosho MP9e.

wah awesome! definitely in my buy list but i prefer the yellow/red
why do you have 2 bodies though?
*
Yah yellow is the default, there's a blue edition, red edition and black edition, but quite hard to find.

You can spray any colour you want though, shell comes white, I chose this colour myself to have something different.

I have a black shell for bashing and the blue shell I painted quite carefully with primer, multiple paint coats and laquer so I don't really want to scratch it wink.gif

I just got stickers for the black shell today, and I've ordered the bumpers/tail pipes and windows for it too so I can make it complete.

guys, i'm a total newbie to RC

is there any RC car <RM500 that you will recommend for a newbie?

or really must spend >RM1k to start a hobby?
*
Yah I'd recommend a WLtoys A979 with a few minor upgrades after a while to get up on your skills.

Base model RTR is less than RM200 add some alloy parts, metal bearings, bottom plate, suspension, metal pinion etc RM300-400 you can have a really nice car.

Yah HBX 12815 also not bad, with interchangeable parts. You should try and buy something above toy grade or it won't really be fun.

Here's my video on Building a Tamiya Lunch Box CW-01 Including Reinforcing Tyres & Foam Inserts in 2019:

Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LeqPcUEoseg&feature=youtu.be

Finally got around to finishing editing it haha, was learning Adobe Premiere Pro...

Super fun build, I recommend it!

Almost double the price of course it's better, and it's quite a bit bigger. Depends what you're looking for.

Nice! Where is this track?

Also general question, anyone know of any good outdoor/bashing tracks or spots around North of the city (TTDI/Kepong/Sierramas side)?

Some updates from my side rclxm9.gif

Bought my Son a WLToys 12428-b for Christmas - he loves it! Great little car.

I totally broke my lunchbox at the beach in Desaru so I finally got around to installing all the aluminum hop-ups from GPM racing.

1) Since then, I've also moved the servo position so it's more centered (But now my steering tie rods aren't the right length so I need to get some more/make some that are equal lengths)
2) I've soldered in a 13.5T Brushless Trackstar motor using 3 pole connectors, but the grub screw on the pinion broke so I can't refit it for now (and due to the CNY it's taking really long for the grub screw to come)
3) I've bought new black rims and the tyres with spikes, it looks really cool but potentially has too much grip for asphalt and will just tumble wumble all the time
4) Switched it to the FlySky transmitter I bought for the Grasshopper

That'll probably be everything I'll do to the Lunchbox, maybe a Lexan shell and tuning the suspension setup will be all.

And my wife bought me a Grasshopper for Christmas, the year she was born was the original release year, so it's kinda sweet.

I totally revamped my study and build space over the new year, so I had a great time building it.

I will publish a full YouTube video on it later, it's a really fun buggy! For now, it's all just on my Instagram story.

The only upgrades I did were:

1) Used the old 540 silver can from the Lunchbox instead of the tiny 380 motor (This required an 18T pinion) - it makes it quite fast! The GH really doesn't need and more power than this.
2) Ball race bearings all around (never use the plastic kit bearings!)
3) Alloy shocks, although the front ones turned out to be garbage, the rear seem pretty good (I've switched the front back to the original shocks and I'm trying to figure out what is the best way, probably will get the Hornet/GH II lower arms and fit those, then it should be able to take a small 55mm oil shock of better quality).

What I need to buy/have to complete this build:

Must Have

1) Flysky FS-GT3B (RM100)
2) 6-cell NiMH battery (~RM100)
3) HOBBYKING™ HIGH TORQUE SERVO MG/BB W/PROOF 12.8KG / 0.22SEC / 58G (RM25)
4) WP-1060-RTR Waterproof Brushed 2S-3S 60A ESC (RM55)

Optional

1) 540 size motor (standard Tamiya silvercan recommended) (RM30-100)
2) Bearing kit (highly recommended) (~RM30)
3) Alloy shocks (I'd explore other ways like the FX10 mod, hornet rear mounts etc) (RM190)
4) 18T Pinion (needed for the 540 motor) (RM30)

Do you know how to fit wheels meant for 14mm hex to a 12mm hex axle? I ordered a set of 2.2" rims... sekali tengok rupanya 14mm... cilakakk...
*
You have to glue 12mm hex adaptors in making sure you centre them properly on an axel when you place them.

Similar to glueing hex adaptor into Tamiya style rim made for freewheel with bearings.

Usually for speed, which is preferred? Solid axle OR independent suspension?
*
Independent, solid-axle is for strength more than anything else, if you are putting serious power through something which is getting a lot of abuse, solid-axle has a lot less moving parts, so less to go wrong or break.

That's my understanding of it anyway.
