Hi guys, after watching some cool videos of R/C Rally/Scale Stage..now gatal to get one. So I looked at Tamiya's XV-01,DF-03RA,HPI RS4,Kyosho DRX-VE..and all those are either too expensive or no stock. So,going for a cheap build, which kit can easily convert into a rally car? My budget is around RM800 for the complete build. Oh btw,I'm from East Msia.
*
If you want cheap, the XV-01 is a good platform. Or else the DF-03ra.

The Kyosho is fine, but do bear in mind that the unpainted BODYSHELL is upwards RM250. And spare parts are kinda pricey.

Since cheap is the key, you can get a HSP Xeme or Flying Fish and convert it for rally purposes. I've done that. It's quite decent, but for rougher terrain, it's better to have a buggy/SCT to tackle those terrains. Our local scene DO NOT have any scale tracks where the rally car can really shine. sad.gif

The HSP's seems like a decent platform..which one is easier to convert,Xeme or Flying Fish? They look like they have the same chassis though and only difference are the tires? Do they come in kit,pre-built or RTR? This will be my first hobby grade rc but I don't mind building a kit up. BTW,got any recommended shops from where I can get one? DRC seems to have no stock, so far I've found the shops below, are they reliable?

HSP Flying Fish
HSP Xeme

Here in Kuching also no rally track AFAIK, but I plan to build one as there is a piece of empty land right next to my house and I've been day dreaming this past couple of days about r/c rallying on that land, haha.

Search for MyMegaStation. Very good and recommended service. smile.gif

The HSP, do bear in mind, is still an on-road platform, and if you can accept the limitations it'll have offroad, then you will be fine. Also, do bear in mind that the HSP is a 200mm wide chassis, so you MUST get a 200mm wide bodyshell, otherwise the wheels will stick out and that will look horrible sad.gif

Here's some poison for you smile.gif

Yep,totally no high expectations on the HSP..just wanna get something cheap to try out. Besides, not gonna race it, just some light bashing/rallying. MyMegaStation also no more stock for HSP FF/Xeme. Found a couple on Mudah though, and seems that Xeme is no longer in production? DRC Toys even told me they stopped selling them 'coz parts are hard to find. Is that true? Well, gonna check out my LHS first,or maybe some toy stores. Eric, i noticed you bought a HSP EP on-road car recently, which model did you get and mind sharing what did you do/purchase for the rally conversion?
*
Parts for me isn't a problem, as MegaStation has a wide selection of HSP parts. I got the Xeme on road, did some mods to the suspension set up to get the ground clearance I want.

Alternatively, you can look at FGM Hobby for the HSP on road car.

For the rally conversion, you'll need these

- Tamiya Rally Block tires ( TAM 50476 )
- Set of 24/26mm rims ( Any rims would do fine, but for the overall looks, I'd recommend the Tamiya Ford Focus rims ( TAM 51021 )
- Tamiya Spring Set ( TAM 53333 )
- Shock oil ( 90wt onwards, since the holes in the pistons in the HSP shocks are awfully huge )

hii guys, i plan to try into rc world! hehehe.. any recomendation for buggy especially for new comer? if can i want to test cheap2 one 1st, then slow2 naek2.. hahha

To start off in this hobby, you can try the HSP XSTR buggy first.

Get the brushed version, which comes with a 2.4Ghz radio set, 1800mAH battery to get you up and going. Prices ranges from RM330 - RM360 or so.

If you want to go faster, get a better buggy, and dont upgrade the HSP, as parts will break if you drive it hard into a wall/car tire.

If you have a better budget, I can recommend the Thunder Tiger Sparrowhawk XB. That too has a brushed motor and a 2.4GHz radio set, but that'll set you back for ~RM550 or so. At least the TT is much more durable than the HSP, but dont forget, if you drive it like you hate it, things will break.

yeah! thanx bro for the recomendation. really helpful! btw, how mush cost for the nitro version? it is ok for new commer to try the nitro version??? hehehe.. and possible to use HSP XSTR try in kajang track?? hahaha  tongue.gif
*
I won't recommend nitro for beginners,as its too much of a hassle to tune the engine etc.

Sure, you can try the XSTR at the Kajang track. biggrin.gif

orait bro! thanx again! btw, any recommendation places for buying xstr? HSP XSTR 1-10 sale in mudah.my  is 339 by drc toy shop. it is ok?
*
Yup, price is fine.

If you want to upgade, get a bigger battery, but keep it in NIMH, not LiPO.

Also, a balance charger would be good smile.gif

waaaa.. still lot reading need to be done! haha.. what diff for both batery, and fuction for the balance charger? i thought can charger only by using stock charger. hehe  rclxub.gif

Higher capacity battery, if you compare 1800mah to a 4000mah battery.

NiMH is the older type, while LiPO is the newer one.

There are certain precautions you need to take note of if you want to use LiPO.

Thunder Tiger would be a good bet, as most hobbies stores would have spare parts.

Part prices depends on what are you actually looking for. smile.gif
