Project: 3D printed 1:24 scale classic TAMIYA HOTSHOT kit

Last week i decided to 3D model and 3D print my childhood favorite R/C buggy from late circa 80~90's. Not enough cash to buy the original full scale model i decided to print a smaller version of TAMIYA HOTSHOT kit on workable 1:24 scale R/C off-roader chassis. Took me about 7 days to complete the project. Today i finally did it, a replica version of my childhood R/C buggy in mini size.

TAMIYA BOOMERANG: 50% completion

Working on my next 3D printed R/C project. Just completed modelling and 3d printed several parts of the BOOMERANG, what's left is some minor parts like rear wing spoiler and holder for it the can proceed to painting and decals printing. The main BOOMERANG body took 5 hours to print when compare against HOTSHOT which only took 2 hours only. However my 3d Printing ABS filament almost finish and a roll of ABS plastic filament have been ordered so i can proceed to build more replicas.

Behold! the world first 3d printed replica TAMIYA kit for 1:24 R/c chassis! These three models are my long most beloved 80's childhood R/c model that i always wanted to have. Work in progress: 1:24 scale classic TAMIYA NISSAN KING CAB

Scratch build 3d model a TAMIYA NISSAN KING CAB using old 3d program and today completed almost 12 hours of 3d printing on my 3d printer using ABS filament.
The raw printed model is a bit rough on the surface due to cheap china ABS plastic filament that hardly melt properly but still fixable via lots of sand paper work to smoothen the surface. The 1:24 scale will fit on WL-TOYS A212 chassis which almost have similar width layout like the replica TAMIYA Nissan King Cab. Will keep you guys updated soon. I still need to remodel a 3D meshes of replica wheels to match the replica appearance.

If you're talking about Tamiya Toyota like this one:
http://www.rcmart.com/tamiya-58519-toyota-...?cPath=420_1167

Would cost you about RM$2026.00 excluding shipping charges.

3d print project replica 1984 TAMIYA GRASSHOPPER
Here's my 5th replica TAMIYA project for 1:24 scale: The GRASSHOPPER. It took me about less than 24 hours to 3d model from scratch via Z-modeler. The kit designed for SUBOTECH 4WD platform but unlike the previous 3d print project i tricked out the front wheels to match the 2WD looks on 4WD drivetrains platform. So today i've completed the 3d model works an in another 24 hours later will start to do some 3d printing works. Hopefully i have enough spare ABS filament material to complete the printing since most already wasted on NISSAN KING CAB. Will keep you guys updated.

wow, what 3D printer you use? Resin? ABS?

are the wheels strong enough to sustain the weight & downforce?

you only print the body & wheels? not the chassis?

and where you get the decals?

I'm using classic PP3DP UP! printer, mostly using ABS filament since its very rigid (depend on printing thickness) and durable for normal bashing (but not suitable for heavy geared parts unless its NYLON filament). Chassis is hard because it need more precise printing (0.1mm resolution) and specific filament since chassis contain lots of moving parts causing more wear and tear on 3d printed plastics. So better build just the appearance kit for longer model's lifespan. For the decals i downloaded at Tamiyadatabase.com then resize, do some minor adjustment and print into A4 paper for manual cutting. Btw the TAMIYA Grasshopper 3d print file (*.STL) now are ready for free downloading at my website.

Free download 3d print project: 1:24 scale 1984 TAMIYA GRASSHOPPER
Alright! I've completed my 3d model design and 3d print the model, i've published the 3d print file (*.STL) and also attached decals in zip file where you can download it for free at my website. (https://www.supermotoxl.com/real-object-des...it-for-subotech) and also at Thingiverse website. Recomended to print it using ABS filament material with atleast 0.2mm printing resolution and don't forget to read the instruction first. Hope you guys enjoy my work and 3d print this classic 80's R/C off-road buggies. Next i'm off for another new 3d project. See you soon. smile.gif

so what chassis and transmitter/receiver you use? Tamiya ones not cheap.

those bodies are made to fit on standard chassis or need modifications?

the wheels are not consider heavy duty part?

the decals are just A4 paper? won't it look not so nice and you need to use glue to glue on? not thinking of decal printer or use decal papers?

I'm using 1:24 SUBOTECH CoCo chassis for my TAMIYA replica project. This one: https://www.supermotoxl.com/designs-a-creat...124-scale-truck
Its cheap about USD$40 and build tough for bashing. I bought lots of them and half of them are sponsored.

For the wheel at 1:24 scale overall weight still consider lightweight and durable enough for 3d printed wheels. Lots of R/c community out there made lots of 3d printed wheels for bashing even at 1:10 or 1:8 scale.

As for decals, it takes skills to make it looks good as paper decals. I used lots of them in all R/C models project, very cheap and resourcefull for customizer than buying. Plus after adding the paper sticker you can put layer of lacquer or clear coating to make it waterproof. Its an old R/C trick we used to learn back in the old days.

Did you check and read the links provided above, the SUBOTECH platform is an RTR unit comes with everything:
https://www.supermotoxl.com/designs-a-creat...124-scale-truck
The 3d printed kit convert this RTR unit into classic TAMIYA most sought after. Go to my website, every details is covered to know how it works and also links to our build forum. I'm using Canon Pixma printer.

Scale crawler track: 10% work in progress
I'm working on a new portable rock crawler track for Orlandoo 1:35 scale crawler made out of foam box from my R/C jet kit. Its huge enough to enjoy proper scale 4x4 adventure on the table able to fit multiple Orlandoo models or other micro size 4WDs. Currently its 10% work in progress. Will need to add some foams, painting, airbrushing, adding some electronics wiring around the track, track ornaments and anything to make it scale or looks more diorama worthy looking track. Hopefull will finish before December next next month else before christmas.

60% progress
Latest progress on my DIY rock crawler track, now more challenging and more obstacles added. Successfully tested and proven fun to crawl around which require skills to navigate and move forward to pass over artificial steep rocks. Later i'm going to do some paintings on the foam surfaces.
