The latest major version of RouterOS, RouterOS 6.0 is out of beta and officially released now!

QUOTE
MikroTik RouterOS Version 6 Changes
Here is a list of some changes and improvements for RouterOS v6

• A new linux kernel is used (version 3.3.5) which enables us to use the latest drivers and support most of the latest hardware
• Simple queue mechanism is improved to greatly benefit setups with hundreds or thousands of Simple queue rules
• Simple queue performance on multicore systems is improved significantly
• Latest v6rc3 adds more Simple queue optimizations, Packet flow is slightly changed as you can see in the diagram below
• v6 also features fastpath feature - a mechanism of packet flow shortcuts to massively improve data throughput, currently this feature is added to simple setups, like routing, bridging and mpls, but in future we plan to enable fast path for more complex features, such as Firewall
• Fastpath is also supported for MPLS traffic since RouterOS v6rc3
• RouterOS is now made 64bit for TILE architecture, that is used on our new Cloud Core Router devices (see article on page 1), giving ability to use 16GB of RAM or more

Hidden Feature - Cable Diagnostics

The ability to detect cable problems has now been added in RouterOS v6rc3 and newer releases.
RouterOS will tell you:

    • Which cable pair is broken
    • At what length the cable is broken
    • How the cable is broken - torn or shorted

This works on SXT-G, RB711G, RB2011, RB750 series and other devices with the same switch chips, and also the new Cloud Core series devices.

I have 3 connections at home. Unifi, Maxis 3G and Celcom 3G. Each have their own WAN interface. I see this device have 5 ports. Can set 2 ports as LAN for connection to switch and AP and another 3 ports as WAN for the above connections before shipping? I would like all 3 WAN to work together. Can combine all 3 connections as 1?

Your intended setup is not a problem on MikroTik, you can turn any ports into WAN port and load balancing between them.

However, load balancing setup is our paid services, please check the PM from us. biggrin.gif

I want to load balance 2 WAN:

1. Unifi 5Mbps with dynamic IP.
2. Maxis Business Fibre 4Mbps with 1 Fixed IP.

Can I load balance the 2 ISP and always maintain 1 fixed IP (from Maxis) to connect to outside world?

Which model can do this? Please PM me price of router and setup load balance fee.

Thanks.

Hi pyrite,

The main purpose of load balancing is to distribute the outgoing connection to different WAN link, if you are not intended for that, you can make MikroTik to connect to both ISP and do some policy routing to always stay on same link for outgoing connection. The policy is very flexible and I believe it can do whatever you can think of. biggrin.gif

This feature is supported by every MikroTik router, so you can free to choose the model according to your network size and other requirements.

Hi epsonstylux,

The wireless signal is determined by a lot of environment factors other than the router, such as physical obstacles and RF interference. I suggest you to find out the problem first before you replacing your router.

This is considered an enterprise or advanced router with many carrier grade features, people like it because of affordable and stable. biggrin.gif
