yeah, going thru here and there on the note with 2.3.6...yeah it is subtly smoother, "tighter", more responsive...subtle, but noticable...

now with 2.3.6 downloaded OTA...

battery life...seems shorter that before...draining faster...with minimum usage, 7 hours drain 50%. 44% of it is by Android OS...something is wrong...

is there anyway i can reset the battery calibration? mine is an unrooted phone. do not intent to root it...yet.

1 hour later and i have only 40% left, but now it tells me that K9 email has taken 45% (before was like 15% or so) and is more than android OS...something wrong with K9 email...must have been stuck running in the background.

just did a battery pull, see whether the drain slows down...

In case nobody noticed it, DXKL3 has a torchlight widget!  It activates 3 different colours from your flash.
*
found the widget...on the widget show 3 different colors, but the actual LED flash light will give 3 different intensities/brightness...

I do have a question, I'm comparing SGN screen with SGS2.
first, I downloaded HD and FHD video file to both phone and play.

result i got is, SGS2 is more better than SGN. SGS2 has darker black compare to SGN.

Second, SGN is HD Super AMOLED. SGS2 is Super AMOLED Plus. SGS2 can also play HD and FHD as well.

then what's is the benefit for HD Super AMOLED?

thanks a lot...
*
my wife got an SGS2, i got an SGN...

i feel my wife's SGS2 screen image is slightly more vibrant, brighter, better contrast, better colors...slightly...

while my SGN's only advantage is bigger screen and sharper image, probably due to higher resolution of its HD screen...

me and i think also a few others have updated to 2.3.6 OTA...

just keep trying, keep checking for updates from the phone...if you don't want to try and wait...then can use ODIN or KIES to dowload and update...but me newbie dunno how...

found a way to improve battery life...just by doing a particular charge pattern...found several topics on this in the internet...got several versions/methods. i did a combination of the differnet methods...

10hrs 48min - i still got 81% left!!! yesterday after 7hrs i only had 50% left (i heard is normal when change new version of software - my first day on 2.3.6)...and i used the phone more today...

drastic improvement!!!

this may sound silly or absurd, and that's what i thought, knowing Lithium Ion batteries are now very advanced, but although skeptical, i tried it anyway...no harm, except you fully discharge the battery once (ppl say not good for Lithium Ion batteries)...

so here goes what i did...

use/discharge phone until it shuts down by itself
with phone off, plug in charger and charge to 100%
once it hits 100%, immediately unplug phone from charger
take out battery and let it cool down (some call it normalise) for maybe 3-5 minutes (longer oso ok)
put battery back in and turn on
with phone on, plug in charger and charge to 100%
once it hits 100%, immediately unplug phone from charger
switch phone off, takeout battery again and let it cool down
put battery back in and turn on
with phone on, plug in charger and charge to 100%
unplug it and you are good to go...
monitor and see if the battery lasts longer...

just google the words galaxy calibrate battery and go thru some of the listed topics, and you find several variants of this method...it has something to do with the way a particular chip in the phone reads the battery behaviour, so this sets the chip to read the real 100% and 0% figures or something like that...dun ask me...me no engineer...

Added on January 13, 2012, 6:33 pmtonite i will try it on my wife's S2...and later on my dad's new S-plus...

i would suggest before you take out the battery, you do a brief check of the battery voltage
short cut from dialer :*#0228#

my phone every time charge full is 4.193 volt
OR

standby a multimeter, measure the battery when you unplug...
*
Good idea...will do that when next full charge...maybe can give a clue what is going on when i do fhis...

i tested on my 1..... actually... not quite understand that.... is ur battery after 100% full and immediately unplug, then boot up ur phone battery become 99% or what?...
becoz my 1 after boot up is ord 100% ar....still need to charge it??@@
anyway...i just charge it within 5 min then uplug>off>take out battery> wait> put it back> on

after 2h 49mins.. battery left 90%.... hmm.gif ...seems like even worst i tot.... i just make 2 few mins call within that 2h 49mins...
i ever charge my battery full then put it over night.. morning wake up still got 98-99%.... rclxub.gif
*
the idea is to drain until shut down, then charge while phone is off to get optimum charge, take out battery to let it cool down, then switch on and although shows 100%, still charge again until stops charging (something like topping up a bit)...i dunno how it works, but it worked for me...

ok, last night i updated to LA1 via OTA...everything went well and fast, just a few minutes, had an old 2GB MicroSD card inside, was never prompted to remove (previously time also never)...weird that different ppl have different experience with updating via OTA...

then, immediately after update, i noticed that battery consumption sped up very significantly...same like after i updated to KL3...i played youtube stuff and let it run out until shut down and recharged over the night.

in the morning i switched it on, this time it did mess up some widgets on homescreen...my Juice Defender Plus and Screen Filter widgets disappeared from homescreen. luckily they were still in my widgets list, so i put them back. i lost setting capability of Screen Filter app, so i had to uninstall and reinstall. others seem ok.

also, in the applications screens, i had arranged nicely in alphabetical order...the arrangement has been reset to what looks like the original arrangement when you start up the phone brand new...all apps that i installed, their icons moved to the last apps screen/page...

so far, other data are still there...

phone continues to suck battery fast today. i check and check, again i find K9 Mail app sucking power as it somehow ends up staying awake for more than 1 minute after syncing with email server. this happened the last time i updated too, only on the first day. solution is to force stop K9 and then click on it again to start, and sync it again, then now back to normal it stays awake for 1 second only when syncing. battery consumption seems to have slowed down for now.

i observe the battery voltage and % left on Battery Monitor Widget, it tends to fluctuate up and down...first time i see voltage drop to 39XXmV and then up to 40XXmV, and the battery % left can drop to 86% suddenly and then up to 88% again...and the voltage and % does not happen at the same time, and does not seem related. i suspect the phone is learning the battery's behaviour after the LA1 update reset the battery data.

yesterday at the 11am, on KL3, i still had 92% left. today 11am, on LA1, i have 86% left, and that is after i solved the K9 Mail problem...

just sharing my experience...so far only use OTA to update my Note, and Kies to update my dad's S-Plus...have not reached the stage to learn ODIN or other methods yet...will come to that when i am more familar with how the phone works, for now, i stick to simple and easy "plug and play" or "click and play" methods...

so far, my OTA update can get easily over my home WiFi...i think depends on the speed of your internet connection and the strength of your WiFi connection...slow speed takes too long, connection weak can cause data loss...maybe these 2 issues cause problems?

maxis style - unlimited, but high speed is limited to xGB, when exceed xGB, will continue and high speed, but charge a premium on the exceeding amount...

celcom and digi - unlimited, but high speed also limited to xGB, when exceed xGB, will be throttled down to low speed, but is free of any extra charges...

i moved my whole family from maxis to celcom when we start going for smartphones...
