Hi all sifu,

I am pondering the idea of opening a spare parts shop - mainly local car, japanese car & korean car.

Was thinking to start the biz in shah alam residential area eg:Kota Kemuning

Since its still preliminary stage i dun have much info to share

Any sifu here can share some opinion or advice? Such as supplier, term with workshop & popular parts need to stock.

Thanks in advance

i think you need to have good supplier. try to know as much kereta potong as amany as possible

u can sell at mudah website. just take some photos.

let said if u can get the spare parts at 100, sell la at mudah at 300 but given 50 discount something like that.

don't stop dreaming. ok?

Thanks bro, i am in the midst of searching supplier for new parts. Used parts is lucrative but the supply not consistent + not sure how its obtained, if stolen goods then you are doom if been caught.

I admit I don't have much experience but I enjoy seeing auto parts and discuss with the tauke spare parts but they always very busy layan me long time.

One thing i learn from them is to get supply of those normal wear and tear part eg: timing belt, absorber, wiper, filter, spark plug, lub have to only take those less popular brand as its not big margin. And have to pay supplier as fast as possible if want good discount but it will make your rolling money lessen.

Rm300k as rolling principal is very very minimum... I think.

Some of the tauke say its bad business to be in as require very very thrifty for the first few years to able the business to afloat. Then its still struggle with competition. But heck they are still in the business and driving big car.

I am giving myself 1 year to gather all the require facts before jumping into the ship.

Any comment?

Thanks in advance.

Used parts - yes a lot of tikus stocks, curi case, etc. Prepare to bribe any visiting police officers who are looking for a quick buck or free upgrades to their vehicle.
Supply inconsistent yes too but can source from overseas though that depends on many other factors to consider.
Normal parts of wear and tear - tough business as you mentioned. Low margin, less popular brand, fast payment to supplier. In fact, many would want COD basis if your company is new unless you already built rapport with them but then the price would be 5-10% higher. Easy to test this - ask for quotation for 30/60 days term vs COD basis.
Yes, 300K very minimal nia. Considering the rent, deposit, equipment, labor, stocks. Tough business - high entry cost, low margin. Agree with those taukes. Eventually, you ll need to accept those tikus stocks, curi stocks, as those will yield margin.
From all the above it sounded very negative. So the question is why you would want to jump ship into it and put 300K or more into it plus dedicating 1 year of research?
For passion as an enthusiast?

As for Mudah, cost RM100 sell for RM300, nah, no more this kind of story. Mudah usually would be cheaper especially if more than 1 seller. If I m using Mudah and the stock is RM100 cost, I will sell for RM105-RM120 for advertisement purposes.

Hi Max, thanks for the suggestion.

Yes I am interested in this business maybe due to from small been exposed by my father about this business. But he is not spare part seller just that he always bring me to see his friends and buy spare part for our family car.

I expect this business to be tough but again, which business is not? So lots and lots of determination and money need to be pour in to see a bit of success.

1 year of research is more towards the gaining more insight and building network. In addition the business model and business plan must be correct to have differential between others.

For tikus goods is a no no for me but used part maybe but I foresee is not my main focus. I more focus on new parts and fast moving parts.

Ok. Thats all for now. Have to work.....

Appreciate anymore comment

Parts you mentioned - timing belt, absorber, wiper, filter, spark plug, lub
Parts you did not mentioned also will have
But since now you re in research stage, I think it would be premature to introduce them to you at the moment. Whenever you re ready, just pm me will do. Then I ll intro them to you.
Have fun researching!
