Buy and hold ah? More like buy and hope. Been there, done that. Now only trade stock options. Probably should just stick with UT, something u're good at than try to diversify and lost focus. just my 2 sen.
*
My UTs need not much monitoring already, can just leave it at semi-autopilot mode now. Can try to learn stocks.

Like cherroy said at another thread, look at dividend stocks like BAT, years ago it was trading at RM10++, now RM50++, dividends keep paying year in year out.

Even my Director also lectured me on the same thing...

From my somewhat limited experience in stocks, its better to buy stable stocks and hold for long term dividends and growth, and DON'T monitor the market during trading hours, the intraday/intraweek "shark" movements will drive u crazy. Ok, maybe I don't have the trader's mentality sweat.gif

hang seng dropping since last week. I keep an eye becos i have little bit holding in HK stock lol.. i felt like holding stock waiting for dividend yield is nothing better than buying UT. Let say u buy maxis at rm6.00, last year dividend give 4 times around 8sen each time, total rm0.32. So 1 lot dividend is rm320 not yet deduct tax. 320/6 is around 5% yield only. What's the point of buying stock for dividend yield? If we don count capital gain la.. maybe sometimes u lucky they split share?
*
When we buy individual divvy stocks, we hope for
1. Capital gains
2. Growing profitability => higher dividend payout
3. Increasing dividend payout as % of earnings

Diversification bro, diversification...

For the time being I'm only aiming about 20-25% in Malaysian equities purchased myself thru Bursa

QUOTE(ben3003 @ Feb 21 2013, 12:39 PM)
what fund is targeting shanghai? china focus de only? i heard china no open their market for foreigners, we can only invest thru hang seng.
*
Not no open, but "restricted" entry. I think Eastspring Investments Global Emerging Markets has access to Shanghai-listed A-shares.

I thought H-shares are China enterprises shares listed in HK? unsure.gif

No worry, worst case situation, it will drop by 10% before all stops get triggered. I'll be entering shorts tonight to counter that. UT is the one I'm a bit blurr on how to manage. Something that I hope to learn here. All my PM UT are in equity and single Malaysia region. After learning to build diversified portfolio with FSM, then probably will make the change in PM as well.

if u can manage stocks and options, UTs are peanuts thumbup.gif

sorry guys, im new here...

i just went to UOB and bought the Gold and General Fund for rm3000
but im not really sure what i bought because the staff there told me this fund is better than buying the gold plan because initially i wanted to get the gold plan..

can anyone enlighten me how does this fund works?
*
Gold plan u buy "paper" gold. Or do they let u have the physical gold? unsure.gif
U only gain from the capital appreciation and loss from the price drops of gold prices.

With OSK-UOB Gold and General, u are investing stocks of gold producers and other mineral (oil and gas, copper etc) producers.

but the staff told me the GnG  profit n loss is depends on gold price and the mining company.. is that right??

if i invested rm3k, how do i know whether i earn or lose money??  i bought the fund just now
*
BULLSH*T!

Price of gold mining companies' stocks CAN fall even when gold prices are rising (as in the case in 2012).

http://www.oskuob.com.my/OSKUOB/index.jsp

Basically u take no. of units u hold multiplied by the current price, e.g. u have 1,000 units, current price is RM1.250, so your current value is RM1,250.00
