QUOTE(wongmunkeong @ Feb 19 2013, 11:49 AM) personally, if U are after dividends, i think best to checkout countries with 0% tax on dividends for individuals, like SGX. local ones, i'd rather wait for a crash.. and even then, if SGX crashes as well, i'd buy SGX's coz of the tax. imagine - BAT & Guiness 4%+/- (average KLSE is about 3% in a norm market IMHO) then MINUS 25% or 26% = 4% *(1-25%) =3% net DY (still haven't costed in the total cost of the stock including brokerage & stamp duties ) OUCH! No lar, the 4%+ is net dividend yield, tax already deducted. Dividends nowadays are mostly tax-exempt/single-tier dividends already. Sin stocks like breweries and tobacco firms, can buy for long-term holding...I think. Every year top up with my annual bonus, see how much can I get at retirement

QUOTE(ben3003 @ Feb 19 2013, 12:04 PM) Hmm, but i cannot touch the RSP fund right? Or can manual topup the RSP fund? Cos i believe it is independent under RSP, not in ur holdings right? RSP is just a method of purchase. Once u have purchased the units, its compeltely up to u to topup/sell.

QUOTE(ben3003 @ Feb 19 2013, 08:20 PM) Pinky, is it wise to put a little amount into Kenanga growth fund or eastspring investment equity income fund, even GE is coming soon? Just glanced thru January 2013 fact sheets for the HwangIM funds I'm holding - Global Financial Institutions, Asia Quantum and Select Income... - ALL THREE FUNDS HAVE RAISED CASH LEVELS SIGNIFICANTLY (between 18% to 30%) - ALL THREE FUNDS HAVE TRIMMED HOLDINGS OF MALAYSIAN EQUITIES U sendiri fikir la This post has been edited by Pink Spider: Feb 19 2013, 08:59 PM

FSM Research Team also observed that the Fund Manager for Hwang AQ successfully timed the previous market downturn(s) and raised cash at the right time to protect the fund from severe losses. During the European crisis crash, Hwang AQ cash level is also around 30%+. Food for thought...

QUOTE(David83 @ Feb 19 2013, 09:18 PM) The strategy they employed made them less volatile compared to KLCI movement. They have a table to prove that. Regarding 1st question, Pink Spider has replied. Dunno whether I'm the only one who caught this... Kenanga Growth performed greatly in last 5 years (from 2008). Prior to that, it only managed to track KLCI at best, at times underperforming KLCI. Looking at 10-year chart of KGF vs KLCI, from 2003 to 2008 the KLCI was on a steady uptrend, then 2008 we have General Election, then 2010 we have the US financial crisis. What I can observe is, during periods of optimism, KGF underperformed.

QUOTE(wongmunkeong @ Feb 20 2013, 07:28 AM) U noticed too eh? TA Comet used to be the leader before that As Dave said, KGF's more defensive tendencies served it well in recent times, but not sure whether it can continue its outstanding outperformance against benchmark in a bullish backdrop.

QUOTE(gark @ Feb 20 2013, 09:46 AM) Wah pinky want to play stock already.. guess UT too boring for you ah? Sifu!!!! Teach me play stock!!!!! I "played" before, and had a quite substantial loss (in percentage terms, not in RM terms ) Now I just wanna collect some stocks with attractive dividends, buy-and-hold for long term. Don't put all eggs in UTs in one basket, remember? Stocks will only make up about 20-25% of my total investment assets for the time being.

QUOTE(gark @ Feb 20 2013, 09:57 AM) Stock more exiting than UT, but don't speculate.... always have margin of safety in mind. You still have not teach me anything ah sifu? I just screen thru stocks with 1 criterion - dividend yield higher than my "conservative" bond fund's IRR - 3.7% Then I look at consistency of dividend payout and whether revenue and profitability is growing Simple je

QUOTE(gark @ Feb 20 2013, 10:10 AM) Wooo not so simple... for stocks not only you see the dividend but dividend can be reduced or stock price fall due to business and market sentiment. Your 'stock' can pay 8% dividend but the value drop by 30%.. then how? If very simple everyone 'kaya' already ooh.. Picking stocks is 100x harder than picking UT... That's why I only allocate 20-50% for stocks lo... Generally I'm only looking at consumer stocks, main focus on "sin stocks"
