v3... rclxms.gif

Hey people,

Stock SLK 850 (2006) owner here. 6 years already and lots of symptoms showing.

Guys, any idea how much a speed sensor costs? My speedometer (hence total mileage) not working anymore.

Comments please?

have u check the speedo cable? might probably the cable had cut off or the trip at the end loosen out..
Aha, good point there mc_dollah. I'll have a look at the speedo unit this weekend. Too bad I can get under the car to check the connection on the gearbox side.

Point to note though: out of the blue the speedo will come to live and add a few km to the mileage meter before going back to sleep.

Hey all,

I meant to share something here about the loss of my Kancil speedometer function [posted April 25, 2012]. Finally got it back. Before this, both the Perodua SC and a few mechanics condemned the dashboard unit and suggested replacement around "a few hundred-lah". Got my CV axle replaced last week and in the process, transmission fluid. As per mc_dollah's suggestions, the guy went and look at the cable and connection at the gearbox side to make sure everything's well and snug. So yeah, a thank you is in order sweat.gif

**************

Two questions here:

1. When you get your timing belt replaced at the end of service life, does the workshop you sent your car to check for the correct tension at the end of installation? Not sure if I'm too "cerewet" but I believe the manufacturer's tension figure is there for a reason.

2. Has anyone experienced symptoms with a overly tight/loose belt tension? I'm trying to rule out the cause of some sound* when revving at around 2.5K (in neutral and in drive).

*not sure how I'd describe it but it sounded like a boiling kettle (not the high pitch whistling but the hum/whine)

Cheers, people!
