i disabled steam cloud since day 1. i know this will be a problem somehow. plus i dont play across platform the same game. i think thats the main function of steam cloud rite, to sync ur games across platform

Its useful to have my games and settings backed up - especially Portal 2

Sometimes I play on my MacBook Pro (in fact I completed all the levels on my mac) , now when I moved back from Aus to Malaysia and fired up my main PC - voila my save games are there and my key bindings are stored as well. It keeps synced across my PCs

Ideal for RPG games or any other game in fact

But if you have a sucky internet connection (with poor upload) it can take a huge time to 'sync' as it will upload save games and other files to their central server

Try restoring manually as how the guy above me pointed out

Steam can go not responding when it restores something , just wait , sometimes it takes super long. The way to determine is look at your DVD Drive , does it read , any I/O ?

Games that uses steamworks can be activated in Steam. Its simple as that except for some games like Airline Tycoon 2 - it needs Steam but it does not use Steam and warhamer 40k it uses games for windows live but needs steam for 'activation'

Does the 3D card in m14x a major leap from xps 15?
Any opinions would be appreciated?

A split of work and gaming. Will be starting uni next month. Now i'm more or less getting the xps 15. Comparing with alienware, the only difference is that alienware GPU is better than xps otherwise the rest of the components are better on xps. xps comes with 2gb GT 540M. Is it still a powerful GPU card?

I'm not expecting to play every game on max as i tend to prefer performance to games than graphics.

Also I want to say thx to everyone for helping me out here. Really helpful in my decision.  rclxms.gif

I dont recommend gaming laptop for uni stuff. Unless you plan to keep it in your place. The reason why its weight and battery life.

It depends on your taste. I am using a MacBook Pro 15" (yes it costs a bomb and I could have bought a better spec laptop). There are reasons why I went this instead - mainly i want a solid computer for my work. Gaming is a bonus (and the only games which I've played are WoW , TF2 and Portal 2 and as well as some old games).Let me say what I've said to people on recommendation on a product.

Go out and test the product for yourself. Take a look at the design and the specification. See how the laptop feels for you. If it's good , go ahead with the purchase and stuff. You need to consider other factors as well

1. Are you going to bring in to university every day ? (Trust me , carrying this 2.5kg MacBook Pro in a backpack can hurt)
2. Do you plan to work extended hours (like in lecture halls and stuff) without carrying a charger ?

Benchmarks are numbers , some of us prefer to play games at a decent settings and others who strive for the best possible graphics. Also please consider additional $$ for investment such as a laptop cooler , a decent sleeve and few others as well.

Why russia price is cheaper?
*
Price discrimination. Simple as that. These companies want to squeeze a lot of money

In Australia COD MW3 costs RM 280 , and in Russia it costs RM 70 (after converting from respective currencies)

Now , the entire people selling cheap russian keys has been going on for a long time. Take a look at sites like g2play.net. It has been going on for a long time. The way how it works is that you get some guy to buy the physical copy of the disc (its cheap there) , the guy sends a photo of the jewel case with the cd-key , and you activate it in Steam.

Now its debatable , I've had this discussion with my fellow awesome mates of KGM/Malaysian Gamers. I've purchased myself and yes thankfully it worked in one piece. I've heard horror stories whereby steam would 'deactivate' the game or remove it from your inventory.

Generally a lot of people tend to opt for Russian or Eastern European version of games these days, the main reason being is cheap. I've told this to frags on writing to EA/Blizzard/Activition on their pricing policy. Look at the price of Diablo 3. Its expensive , do you think the masses would able to afford (don't count in fanbois). Its simple. They should at least cater pricing to our pricing. For instance if COD MW3 is priced say RM 80 - RM 100 , probably a lot of people would purchase the legit version here in Malaysia.

Its just an example that I'm citing. I've researched (tons and tons of time I've devoted) in this Russian key thingy. If you need to ask me questions , drop me a PM and I'll try to answer.

This is also applicable for those who are using 'region' checks to bypass the check and purchase and gift it as well. So better be careful on the tricks
