It's gonna uninstall + delete the entire file contents. I would suggest that you perform a backup of the game files using the Backup function in your Steam client before deleting the local content.

Yes, it'll backup the entire game files but keep in mind that most games have constant updates from time-to-time, so by the time you restore the game again in the future, you might need to download some of the updates you've missed.

It's the chicken & egg question but most would agree that the ratio of those who actually purchased the game after playing the pirated version & the one who just moved on are pretty minuscule.

tl;dr no, piracy doesn't promote the game as effective as you think it is.
