I received a letter from LHDN this week because i didn't declare my income for 2008. Now i am supposed to pay penalty of 20% of my income tax. That's freaking huge!

I did some research and found that only in June 2011 did LHDN announced they will increase this penalty to 20-30%. Before this, first time offenders had to pay just around $100. Shouldn't LHDN only use this new penalty rate for next year's declaration?

I feel there is some sort of entrapment going on. Lets say LHDN detected that i was an offender in January 2011; rather thay notifying me straight away, they chose to wait until June when the penalty rates has been increased. I guess BN needs money for the next general election
