There are many sales on going recently, so I was thinking of buying formula milk for my new born baby due in next Feb (seems a bit kiasu ya... tongue.gif)

I plan to BF but our parents (and also some other friends) advice to standby a little tin formula milk in case if I have no BM after bb come out.

There are so many brands out there and after the recent Enfamil recalled incidents, it makes me worry what is the correct brand to choose? Is it we can just choose any brand for Step 1 formula or there are other things new parents should pay attention when buying the first formula milk for their newborn? Or will the hospital doctor recommend the brand later on so we no need to worry now?

Thanks for your advice smile.gif

But how about after confinement? After the maternity leave over, I will need to back to work... a lot of complications and sure will need to resort to formula milk by then. Any brands recommendation?

billie bonka, i would say NO formula milk can replace BF... ur breasts r created to provide milk for the baby so they r basically an endless well... there is NO SUCH THING as NO MILK... BF journey looks simple but it's not an easy one... most first time mummies failed their journey due to lots of reasons e.g. not determine enuf, ppl surrounding the mummy keep giving negative ideas, etc... by getting FM as standby i can tell u ur journey is already losing halfway... if u really wanna BF, even after work, u need to read a lot n stand firmly to ur ground...

check out this thread LYN Breastfeeding Support Group n in FB The Breastfeeding Advocates Network

there's lots of bf mummies out there who is working n pumping ebm for their babies... if they can do it i dun c y others kenot smile.gif

Formula milk has price varies, so its up to u to choose which one to give ur baby first try. Gynae has give sample of different brands but as I know S26 is expensive and I end up with frisolic gold now. I bought some to standby. Earlier got discount as I not aware and thought is normal price, but now waiting for sales and grab as much since my baby feel good with the frisolac brand...

I BF my little one for first two months, now still on- going. She is 4 months old now. Usually I pump out the milk while working days. N BF her again on weekend. For ur info, but sad to say that I m a weekend mummy. I use Anmum for my girl. I hv tried Out some other brand like Isomil, she doesn't like the taste n end up she refuse to drink. By giving her the supplement, u hv to watch her poo as well, eg: the colour, the texture n the smell. Isomil &Similac, the poo smell will b very strong, Snow brand is fineswine taste is sweet, but the texture is like very oily. All these are just my personal review, so far I just tried this few. The best for my girl is Anmum.

lactation consultant told me that all mother their milk is ever ready once they pregnant till certain stage. so just try BF and its super good for ur baby. get some reading and guide from those lactation consultant which usually availalbe at the hospital. if the baby able to latch on properly then u are good to go.... but still buy some milk powder just in case production not enough.
It can be any brand like enfalac, anmum etc.... buy smallest size as some baby is choosy....mine dun like anmum so i hv to buy enfalac..

there is no such thing as no BM from moms..all it takes is alot preseverence and patience.. also BM is precious and more expensive milk compared to formula.. think abt it...

and this is actually coming from a bb's father opinion.. :-)

Thanks for all the opinions biggrin.gif

May I ask besides bb taste preference, is there any other things to take note? I heard some milk will make bb hyperactive, some will cause heaty to the bb... also there's a lot ad says milk got extra DHA, vitamins, etc...

Anyone has any comments on any particular brands? (Enfa, Anmum, Abbott, Wyeth, Dumex, etc)

Seems like your mind is already set to feed your baby formula.

May we know the reason why?

In that case I'd suggest not to buy anything before baby comes. Yes, price may be cheap but you may end up wasting the whole can of formula worth RM77 just because you wanted to save RM5.

Dont worry about the ads too much. They're all advertising gimmicks. Else why would parents want to pay so much for overpriced cow's milk?

Yeah just gib the cheapest... All same. Those added stuffs not proven... My bb drink lactogen only now after i quit bfing at 11months. Others brands he developed rashes... I cc looks same only, still as smart as babies on enfa or mamil or similac wat...oredi know alot of words at 12months....walked at 7months so exp formula are just gimmick to scare parents into giving the best

u'll b surprised that there's mummies out there so pump exclusively n bring back their supply once a week. one instance i heard is from singapore to kl. we oso have another forummer who supply ebm from kl to ipoh once a week. if u really wanna bf u gotta research. else get more part time or sideline so u can get more money in buying formula milk n medical expenses. fyi formula fed babies get sick often than breastfed baby. ask around.

yea. i support nicKit as i was breastfeeding my girl too. but if your mind already decided not to breastfeed and keep thinking it is not possible due to distance, etc, giving yourself lots of excuses and trust me, you will not succeed. you have to have determined mind. relax and the milk flow will comes. and pump exclusively is possible, as i did. i pump exclusively for 11 months for my girl. pump at work and bring back home. my colleague also pump exclusively (follow my footstep..hehe) and send to her nanny every week. smile.gif

btw...back to your question. i suggest not to buy any now. after u give birth, while u are still in hospital, nurse or doctor will feed baby with fm and they will assess if the fm suitable for your little one. u can ask them what brand of fm they give to ur little one and u can buy then. no hurry now. sweat.gif

I agree what hellokitty82 & nickit said...bf..is actually about determination. I'm talking from experience..as a full-time workign mom with just ngam ngam supply (I'm not blessed with overflowing supply but i worked very hard to make sure I had adequate)

Anyways..FM really depends on the baby..some may not agree with the brands..even though it's supposed 'best' and 'most expensive'.

As i no longer pump (as my son is already 2.5 yo but still direct bf), i just give him the normal Dutch Lady 123.

I also agree with other mummies... U r BM will automatically come when you firstly see your NB baby's face. Afterwards it's all about hard work & determination to keep the BM supply ya! But u will not regret...

My baby also 11+ months and I BF, pump during work and give to my bbsitter. There was a time that bb didn't take my EBM and I had to try all sorts of FM. Such a hassle cos very difficult to choose 1 that suits their little tummies. But with BM no probs at all! The FM milk I tried was (Anmum, lactogen, Dutch Lady, Dumex, Enfa, Nan) rclxub.gif luckly my baby started drinking EBM again after a while.

FYI The time that I had to feed him FM - He got rash in his nappy area / Pass green color poo / Vomitted evrytime after drinking milk / constipated for few days / got sick very often... Aiya so much trouble!!! So again THANK GOD my baby drinking my EBM.

Also don't belive that that FM fed babies are smarter cos my 11 also quite smart and he's walking very steady... It's all gimmicks that FM production companies are trying... And you save LOTS OF MONEY so you can buy other things for your baby... Playpen, cots, walkers, strollers, clothes etc etc

Good luck thumbup.gif
